Please note that I did not compare the H to the G, but the other way around! Knowing that the same guys made them, I'm just gonna go w/ the Heritage first---Also, I believe that the L-5 has a Solid Spruce top (?) which makes me think Golden Eagle--but I knew that somebody here would know better than I. Also, L-5 = eagle....is there a corresponding G to H's 550? (style/size, etc---NOT quality)

There are several L5s. Check it out. http://home.provide.net/~cfh/gibson2.html

Most often the L5 is thought of as a 17" single cutaway guitar with a depth of 3 3/8". Heritages mostly are 3" deep. The Golden Eagle, ordered with a mounted pickup or two, would be the closest to the run of the mill L5.

One of the nicest L5 models is the thinline. Here's a few to gawk at.

Here's the Heritage reply to them.

I believe it was the ES 350 that was the basis for the H550. I am not sure if they still make them or occasionally have a reissue. If memory serves, it was sort of like an L-5 but with laminate construction.

Even at 5 to 1, I'll take the Heritage!

That's the Perfect GE MGrass! I love the colors :icon_thumright:

Basically the two guitars are very similar, but the Golden Eagle is slightly slimmer than the L5 as Marty Grass noted.

Heritage also elected to go with a floating p'up system for most of their GE's, but those with the single or double pickup mounted in the top are as close to an L5 as one can get.

The L-5CES is most like the Heritage Classic IMO. Thinner body, but same double in-body pickups, parallel bracking and 4 controls.

You are right, of course. When you custom order a GE with two pickups, they do parallel bracing though.

The ornamentation of the GE better matches the L5 than the Eagle Classic (cupid's bow, binding, inlay, blah, blah, blah...) So the L5 is kinda a cross between the GE and Classic.

The Classic is a fantastic value. It has all the rich tone without playing for all the bling. And your Classic has some of the best wood ever.

If I can ever spring for it... I will own an Eagle Classic. Just because I want that L-5 thump from time to time. :D

you sure? I thought they were both 25.5"

He's talking body length, not scale length.
