jsolman Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Hi there, Just bought my first Heritage 550, very happy with the guitar but confused by the serial numbers. On the back of the headstock it reads Y09806, but on the inside of the body cavity the sticker from the custom shop reads Y13905, any idea why the two don't match? Is it possible the neck was replaced? Thanks - Jay
jsolman Posted December 25, 2011 Author Posted December 25, 2011 Sorry the second file would not upload so here it is
mars_hall Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 The serial number on the top of the head is the real one. My guess is someone swapped the cavity cover at some point.
jsolman Posted December 26, 2011 Author Posted December 26, 2011 Hi thanks for the reply, just to clarify it's an archtop so there is no cavity cover. Any other ideas? thanks again. Jay
TalismanRich Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Its very unusual for the neck to be swapped, but not impossible. You might check with the guys at Parsons St to see if they have a record of such a swap. It most likely would have been done at the factory.
bolero Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 maybe whoever owns Y13905, has a cavity sticker that reads Y09806
Spectrum13 Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 maybe whoever owns Y13905, has a cavity sticker that reads Y09806 43 days apart so whatever happened was at the factory.
SouthpawGuy Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Sorry the second file would not upload so here it is Can't seem to view that attachment. Just a thought .... perhaps the guitar was almost finished and the label applied internally, then for some reason it was put to one side ( maybe waiting on parts ?), and then when it was completed the serial was applied to the headstock with the valid # for that day. My 575 has no label inside but has the serial on the headstock, I'd go with the thought that the headstock # is the correct one.
Guest HRB853370 Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Probably just a clerical error. Somebody may have grabbed the wrong sticker when they slapped it on the inside of your 550. I would put more creedence in the headstock serial number.
