baimo Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Actually, I just picked up my first acoustic Archtop. A 1996 Heritage sweet 16. Have been consolidating my guitars and after a few trade-ins, swaps, etc I ended up with a credit at a small guitar store. I have a nice balanced group of electrics and acoustics. 3 special(out of the ordinary) acoustics and 3 special electrics. I noticed the archtop sitting in this storw I had a credit in and decided I would give it a try. I have never been a jazz player ( I am really still learning at age 57), so maybe this is a silly purchase, but I will try it with some music I now play and have my teacher work with me on some jazz rifts and chords. Any way I am excited to journey into the archtop world. I had a gibson 339 but I considered that a well rounded electric guitar. The archtop is foreign to me.
Hfan Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Welcome to the forum, sweet guitar. A few jazz riffs may just hook you to the genre. Didn't know we had any small guitar stores left in NJ.
FredZepp Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Sweet 16's are special guitars.. I predict that you'll love spending some time with it. It looks great as your avatar, we'd love to see a full size photo if you can. And Welcome to the HOC !

bolero Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 wow congratulations, that's beautiful! someday I'll own a big hollowbody Heritage.... is that a cedar/spruce top? welcome to the forum
baimo Posted December 31, 2011 Author Posted December 31, 2011 I believe it is a spruce top from reading the specs. I will ask the owner on NJ Guitar and Bass who sold me the guitar next time I stop in. He is curremtly doing some fret work on one of my electric guitars, so I will see him soon.
GASguy Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Welcome to the HOC! That is a very nice looking Sweet 16 you have there. I believe Roy Clark played a Sweet 16 for most of the show when I saw him several years ago. Congratulations on your first Heritage.
baimo Posted December 31, 2011 Author Posted December 31, 2011 Thanks for the welcome everyone. What music is optimal for these guitars. Just Jazz? Country-rock? Plays early beates well. baimo Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 welcome, the sweet 16 is Ren Wall's favorite too. Funny you said that. I called the factory and asked them where I could buty a case for my new Heritage. The gentleman asked which model and I told him it was a 96 sweet 16. He said "That is one great guitar". He then proceeded to tell me I could buy one from him although he didnt have CC or paypal. I could send a check. He was super nice and told me who to make the check out to and where to mail it to and put it to his Attentiom: REN. LOL
