I would just offer that if you purchase a P-90 equipped guitar, you could if you choose, have the guitar routed for the larger humbuckers.

If, however, you choose a humbucker guitar first and then decide to go the P-90 route, you can use some variation of a humbucker sized P-90ish pickup (or use a mounting bracket to fill the larger hole to retro fit a real P-90).

I guess I am saying, buying a P-90 first and then enlarging the holes for a Humbucker may be easier than trying to retro fit a P-90 to an enlarged hole from the humbucker.

If you start with dogears, you'll have trouble covering the holes from the mounting screws when switching to a standard humbucker. But Kuz is right, you can change your mind no matter what you start with.

Best to have a collection like Kuz so you can play one until your mood changes then pick out another stunner- always happy, like a kid at a candy store.

What can I say but that I agree...and I wish!

Very good point, I guess I was thinking about the hole size being smaller on the soap-bar P-90s. But yes, you are correct the mounting hole might be visible on dog-ear P-90s.
