High Flying Bird Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Last night I decided to take the pick guard off of the 535 custom. The story isn't the way the guitar looked with the pick guard on or off but how pretty the back side of the pick guard was. It looked and felt like ebony. The naked wood was so pretty. I put it back on. The guitar looks better with it on.
FredZepp Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 It's a Kalamazoo thing ... something about mojo..etc.
schundog Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Pickguards?! We don't need no steekin' pickguards!! Seriously, I've never looked at any other manufacturer's pickguards and given them a second thought, good or bad, but I found myself excitedly taking pictures of the ones being crafted at the factory. Good stuff, Bird.
skydog52 Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 You're going to get censored talking about pretty naked wood Bird!
Steiner Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 It's always nice to know you can, at any time, reach behind and cop a feel...
RhoadsScholar Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 FREDZEPP, love the pickguard shot. That's one of the things I love about Heritage guitars (one of many). NICE PIC
Kuz Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Total quality all the way! Heritage uses high quality flamed wood, The other guys...... Plastic!
Hfan Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Total quality all the way! Heritage uses high quality flamed wood, The other guys...... Plastic! never mind the pickguards, aren't some of the "other guys" fret inlays mother of rubbermaid? I was playing a LP once and they had turned a nasty shade of green. That said the neck had a nice chunky, deep D carve to it.

I own a 94 Classic, and, for some reason, probably to differentiate them from the Standards, they made the inlays greenish. Mine aren't anywhere as green as some I've seen, but they definitely aren't pearly white, either. Here's mine. http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz327/schundog/Christmas2011331.jpg[/img]"]https://
High Flying Bird Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 The Kluson tuners look green to me.

H Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I love the flamed maple scratch plate on my 555. Nice Did your guitar have gold hardware originally? I notice the pickup selector switch retaining ring and scratchplate screws are gold.

It was in a shop and a few had been replaced for some reason so there was a stark contrast between the old ones and the new ones.
DetroitBlues Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 My 140 had a boring plastic LP style PG. With the way the flame top looks, I don't want to cover it up. The most I'd ever do is get a transparent PG so I can see the awesome flame under the wood.
