High Flying Bird

Last night I decided to take the pick guard off of the 535 custom. The story isn't the way the guitar looked with the pick guard on or off but how pretty the back side of the pick guard was. It looked and felt like ebony. The naked wood was so pretty. I put it back on. The guitar looks better with it on.

Pickguards?! We don't need no steekin' pickguards!! Seriously, I've never looked at any other manufacturer's pickguards and given them a second thought, good or bad, but I found myself excitedly taking pictures of the ones being crafted at the factory. Good stuff, Bird.

You're going to get censored talking about pretty naked wood Bird! :icon_shaking2:

It's always nice to know you can, at any time, reach behind and cop a feel...

never mind the pickguards, aren't some of the "other guys" fret inlays mother of rubbermaid? I was playing a LP once and they had turned a nasty shade of green. That said the neck had a nice chunky, deep D carve to it.

Yes Gibby uses Mother of Toliet Seat inlays (aka Plastic)

Pete, I'll bet that was an LP Classic. I own a 94 Classic, and, for some reason, probably to differentiate them from the Standards, they made the inlays greenish. Mine aren't anywhere as green as some I've seen, but they definitely aren't pearly white, either. Here's mine.

Nice :) Did your guitar have gold hardware originally? I notice the pickup selector switch retaining ring and scratchplate screws are gold.

Brian, Yours look fine these where like a blue-green algae look. It was in a shop and a few had been replaced for some reason so there was a stark contrast between the old ones and the new ones.

My 140 had a boring plastic LP style PG. With the way the flame top looks, I don't want to cover it up. The most I'd ever do is get a transparent PG so I can see the awesome flame under the wood.
