Sugar Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I might be buying/trading for one of these guitars, is there anything you guys can tell me about production during these years, also what kind of pickups?
TalismanRich Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Welcome to the HOC. Nothing unique about that era of production other than the standard options. Until a couple of years ago, the stock pickups were Schaller humbuckers. They are not wound particularly hot, more of a midrange output. I like the tone of my Schallers, but some people prefer Duncans or any number of boutique pickups. Schaller pickups are easy to spot. They have two mounting screws per side. Stock hardware is also Schaller, normally a roller bridge. Being a custom shop, you will have to check inside the cover plate on the back to see what upgrades might have been done. Newer 157s are coming with Duncan 59s or Seth Lovers, and using TonePros hardware. Here's my 157... 2003 model. Make sure you post pics when you get it.
pro-fusion Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 The only thing you need to know about an H-157 from any year is that it will kick ass. Wonderful guitars.
FredZepp Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Mine is a '94 157, incredible guitar. It's had a few changes , including pickups, and I love it...
