Hey Guys,
What has been the credit given for
Seymour Duncan pups when exchanging for another brand such as Throbaks or Earthbrane. Waiting to hear back from Jay Wolfe on credit for duncans and curious what you'll have been given in the past on purchase of a new Heritage Semi Hollow?

The Duncans are "worth" $200. When quoting a new guitar, I would expect to pay the amount over $200 for Throbaks. If the guitar is already built... that would be different.

My last 357 was delivered with Throbak MXV pickups.

Hey Jack, I didn't realize you were in the "Throbak Club"?!!! Alright!!!!!!!!!!

If you are upgrading the pickups and the shop is keeping them, then they may give you between $100 to $200 depending on the pickup model. I have a Jazz SH2 and JB SH4 in my 140. I paid $60 for the set. But if you have their Aniquities, you should get a lot for them.

I am asking if you upgrade your pups on a new guitar, ex Heritage Millie, the default pups are SD Seth Lovers and 59 Humbuckers. I would like to upgrade to Earthbrane pups...what is the credit Josh should receive from the dealer or heritage to upgrade to Earthbranes ($275.00). Another words what will be our final cost...$275 - (credit for SD pups) = Cost for upgrade of pups.

That is all part of the quote that Heritage is to give your dealer, and then the dealer gives you his final price. I suggest you talk to Wolfe or who ever your dealer is.

Honestly, If you don't hear it straight from your dealer, the rest is just conjecture from us.

Kuz is exactly right, its the dealer's call, not the HOC's call!

Is the guitar already built and in the store or are you ordering? Just wanting to be sure I understand. Either way, everyone who said the price difference is up to the dealer is spot on.

If the guitar is already built and in the store, the pickups are just extra and try to sell them on eBay or something.

If you are having it built, then, again, what everyone has said is about right. $100 per pickup is about right. So... if you are trading the two out for a pair of pickups with a total cost to Heritage of $275 then you'd have the difference of $75 on top of the MSRP that Heritage quotes. From there, again, it is entirely up to the dealer what they charge. Did good by going through Jay. I've seen places that charge MSRP as retail. Jay comes in a great deal under that.

If I were ordering a solid body, that is EXACTLY the pickups I'd order in it. :D

Here is what happened...Jay Wolfe asked us to choose pups 1 day after our order. I asked what he recommended and he says SD pups. So we listened to them and came back with Earthbranes ($275). He then tells me to purchase and send to Heritage and he will call them to find out the credit for Seymour Duncan pups...I call over to Heritage and they say that's up to Jay Wolfe!! Another words there is no credit if we purchase a different brand of pups then it's on us I guess. Which for 2K for a "custom guitar", I am starting to think we are getting the run around from either Heritage or Dealer. Really if I pay $275 for pups, you really think Jay Wolfe is going to take something off the $1500 remaining on the balance? What do you think we should do...??

Call Jay and make your case as logically and ethically as you have done here. He has a vested interest to keep you a happy customer. Let him know that this is being discussed on the HOC.

As for the folks at Heritage, they are mostly out of the loop on the financial aspects of your negotiations. Your deal is between you and Wolfe Guitars.

Best of luck.

You really need to call Jay Wolfe and find out what's up. Usually if you are supplying your own pickups, you have those sent to heritage. I am not sure whether you send them directly or whether you send them to Wolfe and they send them. The final cost of the guitar is up to Wolfe, not Heritage. Wolfe is paying wholesale, while you are paying retail, so there is no way that Heritage would know what the change in cost will be.

Now, you said that Jay Wolfe said he will call, so why did you call heritage in the first place? You seem to be making a lot of assumptions and posting them, instead of getting in touch with your dealer.

I have ordered several Heritage guitars, a couple from Jay and a couple from another dealer. I always got a quote minus the pickups (the quote minus the pickups comes from Heritage and then to the dealer. The dealer then adds his cost on). I have always mailed my pickups to Heritage to have them installed.

Now, not knowing the whole story it sounds like you might not have told Jay that you wanted to use your own pickups at the time of order. If it was only one day, then Jay should be able to get a new quote and update the order.

Quite frankly I think that Wolfe needs to make this right, that is what a dealer is for.

Heritage gave Wolfe a quote on the guitar that Wolfe ordered. Wolfe needs to change the order and the quote to you.

No way you should not get some credit. Now you must realize that Heritage gets a price break for ordering a lot of SD pups, so others that said it should be $200 credit are being very overly optimistic. I bet it will be closer to a $100 credit, but then again that is for you and the dealer to work out. But some credit should be coming your way from the Dealer.

I usually just buy the gtr & then if I end up swapping pups out, sell them on a forum somewhere

I've never negotiated a credit for pickup choices

who knows, you might not like the earthbranes

in any case, Jay Wolfe has agreat reputation as a dealer & I'm sure they will treat you right

I am just curious what the typical credit is for SD pups when ordering a different set of pups such as Earthbranes ($275)? Will we receive a credit of $100 or only $75.00 for 2 SD Humbucker pups. I need to know because Jay Wolfe wants me to order and pay myself and was going to let me know regarding credit. My interest was not to disparage Jay or Heritage but rather to see what others have experienced when upgrading pups. The issue probably didn't come up when Heritage used premium HRW pups rather than generic SD pups which cost $75.00 on a 2K guitar, that is why you have people purchasing Throbaks and Skatterbranes now on new orders like Dan Greenberg and Kuz.

Where is this credit supposed to come from, Heritage or Wolfe? Once you determine that, can't you just ask outright? I don't think either party is going to deceive you.

I apologize in advance for how this might be taken, but here goes:

1. I believe you can trust Jay or Graham to be fair and totally straight, and

2. Isn't this a kinda huge deal over a couple of bucks?

I know you have posted this several times, and many including myself have responded several times....

It is like me asking you what you paid for the same car I got???

What has Jay Wolfe said? That is all that matters, but yes a credit of some sort should be coming your way.

Just to follow up...talked to Jay Wolfe today. Everything worked out perfectly, Jay gave me a $100 allowance for SD and probably would have given me more but really unnecessary, he was very fair and I will order pickups and have them shipped to Heritage. So all's well that ends well. Highly recommend Jay Wolfe he was terrific to deal with once we talked again!! Thx everyone for your imput and help with this guitar stuff.

Glad everything went the way you expected!

Good to know it all worked out Len. I purchased a few guitars and an amp from Graham. Wolfe has always treated me well as they have with other members of this forum.
