Guest HRB853370 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 And a great guy to chat and have a beer with. But can a jazzcat play metal? Didn't realize there were performances at NAMM
Steiner Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Is that Rock -N- Roll player using a 575??? Sacrilege! Nice chops.
yoslate Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 But can a jazzcat play metal? pppffffftttttttt!!! This one can. Alex defies categorization.
DetroitBlues Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 But can a jazzcat play metal? Didn't realize there were performances at NAMM He started on Metal if I'm not mistaken.....
barrymclark Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 He started on Metal if I'm not mistaken..... He did, but he was the student of Satriani, the fusion player. So, he kinda got his feet wet with both styles.
schundog Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I'll bet the boys in Metallica would think this is very cool! Awesome job.
barrymclark Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I'll bet the boys in Metallica would think this is very cool! Awesome job. I'll bet they wish they could play like him! ...of course, I bet Alex wishes he had their money! haha. Nah, Alex seems like a real down to earth kinda guy. Lots to admire. I am sure he is quite happy with where he is professionally.
DetroitBlues Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I'll bet the boys in Metallica would think this is very cool! Awesome job. He had to get permission to record it I'd imagine... I bet they'd like it. I watched an interview once (think someone here posted about it) that discussed how he came up with the Metallica arrangement.
bolero Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 that was great! a friend played some old testament for me on the way home today, don't know the song but the solo was unbelievable
barrymclark Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 that was great! a friend played some old testament for me on the way home today, don't know the song but the solo was unbelievable Yep. That is really what sold me on Alex back in the mid-80's. He definitely had a different feel to his leads than your average metal guitarist. Dave Mustaine was the same way. Just a different approach. Listen to the lead at the beginning of Trial by Fire on New World Order by Testament. I think that is a 1988 release. Just one of the coolest intro leads to a metal tune ever.
Kuz Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Yep, dude can play a bit. LOL And a great guy from what I hear. Kenny (Tulk1) e-mailed him before PSP3 to see if he could come and he actually responded back that he thought it would be fun but he was on tour in Australlia. Alex needs to get his prorities straight!!!! LOL!!!!

chico Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 hard place to perform with all the attendees chatting while they're playing...
barrymclark Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 hard place to perform with all the attendees chatting while they're playing... You get accustomed to it, really. At least I did. For my first couple of years, I got to where I was getting very used to being a focal point of attention on stage. Then, I left that band for family. Never repeated the same success and started to play to houses of people with folded arms and were busy talking amongst themselves. It took a bit of getting accustomed to. Then I just remembered I play for me. All I owe these people is to not screw it up. haha.

It is The New Order. I had my head stuck on Ministry.
