So I'm hunting high and low for my first Heritage. I'm a traditionalist so Im after a nice burst H150 with the vintage look.

My problem has been that the VSB seems to be the finish that is closest in my head to what I want. However, I see a lot of variations in it from pic to pic.

Then this pops up...

...it's a finish that isn't even listed on The Heritage site, but it is exactly what is in my head. This is exactly what I want my guitar to look like. I just need to know if I have to buy this one which is in CA or if Heritage is going to make more.

Here's a full length shot. If I can order one it will be this with an ebony board and the Schaller tuners.

What do ya think? Killer isn't it?

That is a dark Vintage Burst, and versions of the same color do differ, depending on the tint in the batch of nitro, who's spraying, and how any given piece of lumber takes the finish. You should do a custom order, with the ebony and Schallers, if that's what you require. But if rosewood will do, you can always retro-fit the tuners...the picture above is a fabulous looking 150!! But remember the other variable here, and that's the photography! What you see in those photos may or may not accurately represent the color of that plank. Happy hunting!

According to the shop that has it, Heritage is calling it vintage cherry burst which isn't on the site. I'll be calling Heritage on monday to hear from they're lips whether this is a new color or the shops take on VSB.

Big plus for a custom order is getting the neck custom rolled. Also not a high probability finding an Ebony finger board on a 150 used in your color of choice either. How far are you from Kzoo? A 500 mile drive to assure the finish is applied just might be worth it.

Hey SkyDog52 - is that one of Big Bob's prized Heritage straps I see in your gallery???

Better keep quiet about that; eh? Nice guitars!

You could always send a few pictures to them of exactly what you want color wise, add in the ebony board (I would bind that headstock too) and I'll bet you would get something right where you want it. These guys have sprayed so many that if you show them one, they'll know exactly what it takes to get the look.

Yea I thought the same thing. These guys know what they're doing.

Why don't you ask the seller to look at the lable under the control cavity cover. If it's VSB it usually shows a color code you can double check with the factory.

Im only worried about the ebony on a custom order. If I waited for an ebony board on one used with my color choice I'd probably never find one.

Exactly what do ya mean about rolling the finger board? Thats not a term I'm familiar with.

Rick, instead of getting a 150 with VSB and an ebony board.... It would be proably cheaper to go with a 157 in VSB.

150s = No headstock binding, silver grill "The Heritage", Rosewood fretboard

157s= Headstock binding, MOP "The Heritage" inlay, Ebony fretboad.

(1) I am not sure if all 157s have MOP "The Heritage" inlay, but for a custom order you would want that.

(2) If you want the Sperzel turners with Iveroid Tuning pegs order them as well because the holes are smaller and can't (at least they were unable to fit a couple of year ago) fit as an aftermarket to the larger Grover holes.

SO really what you are looking at buying is a 157 and not a 150, unless for some crazy reason you don't like the Headstock binding or MOP Inlay. I personally don't like Ebony fretboards on my solidbodies (150s) or Semi-solids (535/555) so that is why I went the 150 route and special ordered a 555 with rosewood fretboard.

Good luck and "Get 'er done!!!"

The only thing is I want the trapazoid inlays, and I'm not a fan of the binding on the 157, it's nice but not my style.

The shaller tuners are too small to replace the grovers and I'm not super concerned about the logo, although it would be a nice touch. That thought just probably cost me money, so thanks for that. :icon_king:

Okay so the official word is, the finish on the above axe in question is in fact VSB. Vince admittedly says that it was mixed a little redder or darker so to speak.

As for ordering one the ebony board would be 200 additoinal, which I would do. The tuners on the other hand are 400, :o so I don't know that they're gonna happen.

Now on top of this there are things going on with my job, so it looks like I have plenty of time to ponder this.

Who gave you that quote????? I don't remember anything near that. Something is wrong.

I would buy them from Stewart-Macdonald's or All Parts and send them into Heritage to have them install them on the guitar. Then get your modest credit for the Grovers (or whatever Heritage uses standard).

That was straight from Vince.

Could that $400 quote be for a bound headstock, MOP The Heritage inlay, and the Sperzel tuners? Now that might make sense. But $400 for just the tuners??? They are around under $100 with the ivoroid tunning pegs on line.

Sorry to butt in here but....

You might be confusing Sperzels and Shallers.

Received the impression that the former hardware supplier Shaller is not a vender that Vince and company favor at this time.

Okay I just spoke to Wren, he says it shouldn't be more than 100 for the tuners. Not sure where the micommunication was, but it doesn't matter. Just so I have the right info, anyway when I can order it will be ordered. Now I just gotta make it happen.

I just reread my first post here, and I see I said, "Schallers". I know I meant Sperzel, but I don't know if I could have mis-spoke to Vince or not. Maybe that was the mix-up.

Another case solved.

Next question, why is your avatar photo the same as the one that came with my wallet?

That cracked me up beyond belief. It loaded automatically when I signed in with facebook, it's my FB pic. I want to change it I just don't know what to use. So for now it's all I got. The funny thing is people that see that pic often say it is the best pic ever of me ever and I agree. The other funny thing is my wife who knows nothing about photography snapped that shot on a whim.
