JackBaruth Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Sunday night in NOLA I saw this guy: http://19thstreetred.com/images/photos/images/2_jpg.jpg He was playing a Les Paul goldtop with P-90s through the same amp. He told me it was a GA-40 but it doesn't look like any of the GA-40s I've seen. Ideas?
fxdx99 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 wonderful amp - one of the best overdriven sounds ever. Made them in that style for a short time, '52 to... '54 me thinks.

DetroitBlues Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Looks like one of the original ones that came as a combo pack with the Les Paul. Arlen Roth has one or two if I'm not mistaken... http://www2.gibson.com/News-Lifestyle/Blogs/Arlen-Roth-s-Blog/May-2009/Old-Amps!.aspx
barrymclark Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 DB is right. I don't know much... but I knows a GA-40 Les Paul when I sees one.
DetroitBlues Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then....
schundog Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I did a thread on these amps a while back. This one was at my local GC in Peoria, IL for a while. Gone now. Thank God.... I am a weak man..... http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz327/schundog/girls036.jpg[/img]"]https://
bolero Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 those are really funky old amps..never seen one in person surprised that guy has one out on the street, I thought they were kinda rare
barrymclark Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.... always been one of my favorite sayings. haha. Another one, I have only heard from one person, is "Yeah, and if frogs had pockets they'd carry guns and wouldn't be afraid of snakes."
barrymclark Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I didn't catch it before. It would appear that KBP810 was first through the gate with the correct answer. While I still agree with DB, I agree with KBP first.

It is a GA40... that particular early model that was made for a few years was meant as a package deal of a Les Paul with a matching Les Paul amp....
