JimG Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Hey Guys, I have an H 516 that I have had for many years and just love it. I have used it primarily for jazz and lately I have been playing more jump blues and thinking about putting some Lollar P90's in it. Just wonder what you guys think about that idea. I could get another guitar with P90's, but I really like the way this guitar feels and would like to give it a try. I have emailed Heritage about doing the mod for me so I know it would be done right. Thanks for your thoughts. Jim
blueox Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 We need to see at least a photo of your H-516. Heritage would definitely do it right. You might want to call them on a morning if you don't get an email reply in a day or so. But depending upon your budget, you might want to leave your H-516 as is for that jazz groove, which you wouldn't want to give up entirely, since you like it as it is, and then spec out a new custom axe for your jump blues side.

H Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 My first Heritage was a 516 in OSB. They're beautiful guitars. Fitting P90s means rerouting the top and after that there's no way back. Why not try a set of humbucker-sized P90s like SD Phat Cats or Bare Knuckle Mississippi Queens? Same rout, same rings and an easy way back to humbuckers if you change your mind later.
JimG Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 Hey Guys, Thanks for the info and suggestions. I talked to Ren at Heritage and he said I should avoid it at all cost. I have ordered a cheap solid body with P90's to see how I like the sound and then will probably get a hollow or semi-hollow with P90's and leave my 516 as it is. Here is the only decent pic I have of it. I'll take a better one and submit it ASAP. Thanks again! Jim
bolero Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 ha, funny about Ren, I wouldn't argue with the man!! that is a beautiful guitar....I wouldn't mess with it maybe you just need a P90 H525 to compliment it? ha!
barrymclark Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 The P-Rails are certainly of interest to me. I know a few folks on here have used them and rave about them. If I ever can afford a Heritage again, and I order a solid body, I just may look into these!

'Course I started jazz studies on a '54 ES-175 w one P-90 so that sound has always been fine with me.
DetroitBlues Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 That is a fine guitar.... I agree with Ren. Leave her be....
