flattop Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 About three years ago I purchased a used 575 in amber color. I liked the guitar alot but was alittle worried about using it in a live situation because of feedback. We play jazz and blues and some rock and I was using a 100watt carvin x100b head through a two twelve cab. I switched between the two channels all night (clean and high gain) and no feedback issues. The guitar transitioned from one style of music to the other beautifully. The club we played is not super large and we dont play really loud but loud enough to have feed back trouble and I hab none. Great tone great guitar.
Steiner Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Boy oh boy, I'm with you on this point! The 575 is an awesome guitar: versitile, size, sound and fun!!! Glad to hear there are others too. Congrats.
big bob Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I loves mine... I mean... I concur with your ever so poignant observation.
tsp17 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 +1,000 575 is a truly great guitar. my spruce/mahog is my favorite guitar i have ever, i mean ever, played acoustic or electric.
barrymclark Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I hear you on that! I absolutely adore my 575! It's ONLY drawback is using in higher gain settings. You can get away with 70's rock type gain but once you hit the 80's it will howl! haha. Still, WONDERFUL tone.
Kuz Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 575s do rock, or a they do "Jazz"!!! I LOVE mine, but let's get the pictures going in this thread people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is mine.... 575 Custom (ebony fretboard) in "Golden Amber"
Gitfiddler Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 +1 575's are wonderful instruments!!!!!!!! Welcome to the HOC, Flat Top. How about a shot or two of your 575...please?
Hfan Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Heres mine. Doesen't get out much pretty much new since I got it several years back. Have considered selling it but every time I break it out, I just can't bring myself to do it.
heritagefan7 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Beautiful gits...thx for posting and the pics!
jazzrat Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 ok...you made me do it....here's my custom with ebony board, Fralin Un-Buckers and chrome hdw.
sonar Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Here's my 1999 again, in a couple of shots. It's been converted from humbuckers to P-90's by a previous owner, then I converted from the stock Bigsby to a German made AllParts trapeze style tailpiece. Again: I use it for everything from Rock & blues to jazz, R&B, Country, and pop standards. Goes plenty loud before feedback and then only with a lot of distortion. For that stuff I usually use the other (solidbody partsocaster) guitar. With a midrangey sounding tweed type amp it gets a primitive horn-like sound. I've always liked single coil pickups to eliminate that "milky" humbucker with equal wound coils ("un-lively") sound, though there are some humbuckers around who have unbalanced coils I like OK.
JeffB Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 sheesh. Didnt know I wanted one till I opened this thread.
MichYank Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Out of curiousity, what kind of pickups do you all use? I have SD '59's and am thinking of changing teh magnets to an A2 or replacing them all together.
Fernando Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 sheesh. Didnt know I wanted one till I opened this thread. Maybe there will be a long trip for a 575 this Summer?
flattop Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 Hey, Here is a picture of my 575. As soon as I get the hang of this sight i'll post more.

Have a good mix of vintage tone and a bit of an aggressive bark when you lean in on them good.
flattop Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 The customs are awesome. Could anyone tell me if the spruce top has a noticeably more mellow tone? The other thing is I bought mine used so I really don't know what pickups it came with or if you can tell by the serial number. They sound good to me but I always kinda wondered.
gpuma Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Mine has a walnut finish. Got it not too long ago on ebay. We already had some good times together

SouthpawGuy Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 575 Custom with SD '59s, I love the sound of those pickups in this guitar.

Hard to say re pick ups, Heritage used some different ones, how old is yours? Older ones often had Schallers or hot rodded Schallers (HRWs). Mine is a 2007 and came with Seths.

The other thing is I bought mine used so I really don't know what pickups it came with or if you can tell by the serial number. They sound good to me but I always kinda wondered. Hard to say. I often think of spruce tops as being quite bright sounding. I like mahogany (like of basic Eagles) but I actually like the solid maple H575 I had with HRW's, as it rivaled an L-5 Gibson I once had a little bit. I once had a L-4 that was un-giggable it was so bright, and much preferred my '54 ES-175 with laminated, even acoustically. Maybe it's just me though. To me a maple 575 is a bit dark, but the HRW's have some great high end and sound very PAF to my ears, which gets it close to that lush L-5 sound in certain rooms. 'Course, my present ride is the avatar (w P-90's) H575, which sounds NOTHING like a L-5!
