tgwah Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I've recently started saving my pennies for a quality semi-hollow guitar after I realized that my Sheraton II was just not cutting it. I had my hear set on a 335, but the more I read, the more I'm thinking that a 535 might be a better fit. I figure what better place to find all the info abut Heritage I need then HOC? My apologies. I didn't even realize there was a thread for just this thing in the Heritage Guitars section.
Guest HRB853370 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Greetings TGWAH, and welcome to this club! You will find all the info you need to affirm your wise decision to purchase a 535. Most people that have owned a 335 G brand would tell you the 535 is much more bang for the buck, and the quality is spot on. I have two 535's and a 555 and they are all my favorites. There is a section on the forum for welcome new members, so if you wish to introduce yourself and tell a little about yourself there, that would be great. By the way, I once had a Sheraton II also and no comparison to the 535. I actually sold it within 3 months of owning it.
Bulldog Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Welcome, I also have a 535 and a 575 wonderful instruments for sure. Can't imagine parting with either. Glad you're here!
golferwave Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Welcome to the HOC! Be sure to post pics of your new axe whenever you receive it!!
sonar Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 H535 is what that design should sound like. I have never bonded with an ES-335 from Gibson, nor the later on Guild Starfire versions (though I can relate to the old Guild Starfires with the wood foot style bridge and the smaller older humbuckers).
bolero Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I've owned two 535's..... 1. one that I foolishly sold 2. and another that I tracked down and bought because I was such an idiot selling the first one they are in my opinion one of the best guitars you can buy from Kalamazoo I prefer pickups like Throbak/Wolfetone/Lollar to the Schaller/Duncan's that are often stock...but pups are personal preference & many here like them
koula901 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Welcome to the HOC, TGWAH! You'll find there's a bunch of very enthusiastic 535 owners in this club. it's called The 535 Club! : ) Here's mine:
knopfler74 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Welcome! You'll dig it here. People are VERY VERY cool and there's a lot of info for the taking/learning. I've got a 157, but I've also got my ey on a 535...someday...someday!
schundog Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Welcome! 535s are my favorite Heritage... Along with the 525s; the 150s; the 137s...... Anyway, here's my 535; I had Seymour Duncan Antiquities in it, and it is now an unbeatable guitar! Good luck in your search, and don't give up! Your's is out there somewhere! http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz327/schundog/girls044.jpg[/img]"]http://
High Flying Bird Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 The 535 is, in my opinion, Heritage Guitar's flag ship. I have Phat Cats in this one now.

TalismanRich Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 tgwah, As you can see, there are a lot of fans of the 535. I've got a 535 that seems to be my "go to" guitar, as nice as my other Heritages are. I like the feel, sound, balance of a semi. A couple of years back, I was at Willcutt in Lexington and had the opportunity to play 4 different ES335s. All were unamplified, just listening to the sound ot the wood and strings. Of the 5, only one had the balanced sound to match my 535, and that was one from the 70s. The new ones, just seemed lifeless to me, in comparison. I don't know what they had done differently from the old ones, but you could clearly hear it. The Heritage has a nice sound, lively, balanced. Very nice. I think you'll like the sound of them.
tgwah Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 Wow. Thank you all for the warm welcome. One thing I have noticed with the Heritage guitars I've seen is that the bursts are always much nicer than any other bursts, especially on Gibson. I'm especially digging the Almond Burst Heritage shows on the 535 page. I've not been fortuneate enough to have a chance to play a 535 yet, but I discovered that there is a store about 90 minutes from here in the GTA that carries them. I'm going to have to make a trip out there in the very near future. Out of curiosity, there is no law around here stating that your playing has to be as good as the gear you own is there? Otherwise, I'll never be able to get a 535
sonar Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 ...there is no law around here stating that your playing has to be as good as the gear you own is there?... Geez I hope not. Otherwise I should have stayed with this:
smurph1 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Geez I hope not. Otherwise I should have stayed with this: I think Jack White plays one of those!! LOL
bolero Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 tgwah are you talking about Mojo music in Oakville? that is a great shop, he has a lot of top quality stuff in there; drums, amps, gtrs highly recommend a visit to the store, real nice guy who runs it too
tgwah Posted February 12, 2012 Author Posted February 12, 2012 That's the place. Hope he doesn't mind talking to a looky-loo that has no intention of buying for many, many months.
tbonesullivan Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Ahh... Yes. The 535 is a great guitar. Heck all heritage guitars are great. Here are mine, minus one "weird" one: H-535 in Almond sunburst with matching pickguard, schaller pickups, shaller bridge and tailpiece, and grover tuners. It's a 1998 model I've had for a few years now. the one in the middle is a Millennium model H-158, which is a good compromise between solid and semi-hollow guitars. The one on the end is a H150CM, the Heritage take on a Les Paul. It weighs close to 11lbs. OOF My first heritage was the 535. It's just such a beautiful guitar, and color. It also sounds just as good as it looks.
