Sugar Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Guy says its a 93 or 94 and original. Does it look original, and does it look genuine?
tulk1 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 The problem with whether it's "original" or not is that Heritage is at heart, a Custom Shop. That 157 could have been ordered with uncovered pickups and an LP style finger rest. Only the original owner knows for sure. However, the tail/bridge is period correct. Looks genuine from here.
FredZepp Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I agree... looks real from those pics. And yes, it could have been ordered with uncovered pickups or maybe they've been replaced ... If you can get a photo of the label in the control cavity you may get more info. But in any case, a 157 is a wonderful solidbody, I love mine, it's from 1994 but mine has had a few changes done to it.
Sugar Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 so the tail piece/bridge look like something out of the factory?
FredZepp Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 so the tail piece/bridge look like something out of the factory? Oh yes... Schaller hardware, roller bridge and all. That would certainly be correct for that time period. ... (The ones on mine were changed or special ordered when made ) .

By "LP style finger rest" I assume you mean plastic? The shape is correct for Heritage.
pegleg32 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 A picture of the back of the headstock should put all questions to rest.
Sugar Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 Here is another pic. How much should I offer considering the wear on the back?
bolero Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 What's he asking? I think they go for around 1400 /1500 or so in similar shape?
FredZepp Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 What's he asking? I think they go for around 1400 /1500 or so in similar shape? It's also kind of difficult to tell the condition in those pics... scratches in finish, playing wear, hardware condition .. ? It may be more worn than you think, which isn't a problem , but would affect value.
smurph1 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Here is another pic. How much should I offer considering the wear on the back? That is a consideration, but the thing I would ask myself is..how does it sound? Is it an online sale or is it something you could actually play?
Hfan Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 What's he asking? I think they go for around 1400 /1500 or so in similar shape? I think that is too high. Depends. Local sale? If yes I'd start around $900, maybe go as high as $1,100. Buyers market right now.
bolero Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 yeah could be, I am a bit out of the loop lately. I thought I saw one sell for that recently, but I think it was near mint hard to see how worn it is in the pics...bucklerash doesn't bother me much though, I actually prefer guitars with some beauty marks/real honest wear
SouthpawGuy Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 fwiw I paid $1250 for my lefty dead mint condition '03 157 about 6 - 8 months ago. I may have been lucky, but $1400 - $1500 for a guitar with buckle rash seems high to me. Obligatory pics ... The guitar is totally stock as it left the factory.
bolero Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 wow, I guess I am talking out of my arse then, sorry!! that's a beauty allright
Blunote Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Here is another pic. How much should I offer considering the wear on the back? Buckle rash? Almost looks like someone scrawled a name in the finish then tried to scrape it off. It looks good from the front. I don't think $1,100 would be too much for it.
SouthpawGuy Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 wow, I guess I am talking out of my arse then, sorry!! that's a beauty allright Ha ! And I thought I was the only one !
bolero Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 heh...well in any case ( no pun intended ), for the quality of one of those guitars, that is a steal I sold my Gibson R7 for $2500 used a Heritage 157 would easily be equal
