Trouble Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Practiced Wednesday night, used the Valaveking. I played for a little while before the other guys showed up, and noticed some intermittent static/pop/buzzing coming from the amp. The guys showed up we started playing and the noise kept on. Tried a few different cables, then I realized it would do it with nothing plugged in to the input, then I realized it did it when the floor vibrated from the bass or drums, or the sound coming from the amp itself apparently since it was doing it while I was by myself. I went and played with it today trying to figure out the problem, turns out it was the power strip it was plugged into, it was laying on the floor. Unplugged and plugged into the wall socket problem gone. Anybody ever had that happen?
GuitArtMan Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Yep! I was plugged into a power strip and would get super bad staticy/buzzing sound, only on single coils, but way, Way, WAY worse than any single coil hum I had heard. Plug straight into the wall outlet - buzz gone.
DetroitBlues Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I've had a problem with the VK amps before. On two different amps, I had this popping, loud, static noise. The first preamp tube was blown. Replace the tube several times only to discover there is a known issue in the VK to overload the preamp. It doesn't happen on all of them, just a handful, but its frequent enough to be mentioned on their forum. To this day, there is no resolution. I went through three before I found one that was good. Only kept it for maybe 4 months before converting over to KBP RD amp. (Which I regrettably sold!)

I'm not really worried, if it goes out it will be a good excuse to get another KBP, or maybe get him to build me a chassis to fit in the VK cab, or maybe try my hand at amp building, possibly put a champ circuit in it.
