JeffB Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I played one today. Still trying to figure out how I feel about it. On one hand it was kind of cool and I could see it being a neat "desk top" late night quiet jam alone thing whether plugged in to a monitor system, computer or as a stand alone amp. I got some reasonable sounds at very low volumes. But then I can get reasonable sounds out of my 60w fender with a stomp in front at very low volumes. On the other hand, while I was trying the cool little Yamaha THR a Mesa Royal Atlantic was being cranked through an Eganter TM412 cab in the amp room and Ive got to be honest, the Royal atlantic sounded pretty fricking awesome so even if the THR sounded good for what it is it was pretty much overshadowed by the real thing in full flight. In the vid hes running it through the studio monitors it doesnt sound like that under its own steam. I didnt get the chance to use it through any thing other than its own speakers. It did feel kinda right and I could get a good bluesy grind at low volume. I think it might feel and sound better than my Line6 pod xtlive as a direct recording device. Im trying to figure out if it fills a gap I might have gear wise. Its sort of an amp and sort of an interface. But its not a great stand alone amp compared to what I already have and not as good an interface as I plan to get.(Kemper). But it is cool. I wouldnt put too much weight on my review of 5-10mins of play time with it.

Looks like an SG1820, the bridge and tailpiece are different to the S(B)G2000 / 3000. They're also set neck construction, not neck through, and the rear contour has gone, plus the headstock is smaller. http://uk.yamaha.com...820/?mode=model
