gaining a frame of reference

PunkKitty is out of town for a few days, and asked me to look after her newest addition, the '10 170 Goldtop she recently purchased from JimBob, who bought it from MartyGrass. As a responisible owner that she is, she just wanted to be sure it was fed, watered and excersized properly in her absence, and I'm doing a fantastic job, I must say.

What's really cool is that it is different from other guitars I've had, so It's giving me a great frame of reference ,and, predictably, helping me define what I want in my next guitar. Bwah ha ha ha

The neck on this thing is HUGE based on what I've played in the past, and, despite expectations to the contrary, I LOVE it and I can't put it down. PK also has a US Rickenbacker in her stable, and the neck is comparable on that.

My question to MartyGrass and JimBob.....is this about as big as they come? How would you characterize it? Standard 50's spec?

Also surprised at the 59 in the bridge, I love the sound, not nearly as harsh as the Custom/Custom in the bridge of my 535 and Idol.

And the size. Love it's compact body. And the weight...I think I'd want a bit more heft, but it's great to get my hands on something like this.

Long story short, PunkKitty is never seeing this guitar again. Thanks JimBob for your assistance in getting this to come my way.

Now for that 10lb H150 VSB with a 50's neck and Seth's.......

here she is, happily at the sitter's house, doing laps through a '65 Ampeg Jet....good gawd I do love Heritage guitars. This is only the second one I've played.

That is interesting about the neck size. And you have an '02 535 to compare it to , yet it's that different.

I know what you mean about being surprised that you love the thick neck.

I prefer a thinner neck, but I've got some guitars with thick necks and they can be great to play also. They can make a nice change of pace for me to play.

It's certainly a fine looking example of a Heritage... it's cool that you have the opportunity to really enjoy it for a while.

I think the bigger necks are far more comfortable, and easy on the hands. Glad to hear you're having so much fun with it!
