AP515 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Hi everyone, Just found this place. I was looking for information on my newest guitar and was happy I came across this forum. My story: I was looking for a Les Paul. I found a "G" Les Paul Classic but couldn't bond with it. Traded it for a PRS but couldn't bond with it (I do have others that I love though), traded the PRS for an H150 and I think I found my keeper Les Paul. Officially it is a 2003 H150CM Ultra Goldtop with HRW pups. Feels great, sounds great, looks great. I have a question for you though. The back looks like it has been painted and then the paint was removed or something. Is this something done in the factory or after it was sold? Thanks for the help.
skydog52 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Welcome aboard AP! Nice goldtop. Hard to say but I've never seen a GT with a painted backside. Anything is possible. Heritage is a custom shop. Enjoy playing.
SouthpawGuy Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 To the op ... do you mean the back of the neck has had the finish removed or the entire body ? It's possible a previous owner had used steel wool to remove the nitro finish from the neck. Just a thought.
JeffB Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Hi AP515. Welcome to the HOC from another PRS forum member. (LC)
TalismanRich Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I seriously doubt that the neck and headstock had paint removed, as the serial number and Made In Kalamazoo MI USA are clearly evident. If that had been on paint, it would have been removed during the refinish. The neck and back of the body look to match pretty well. Have you looked in side the switch and electronics cavities to see if there is any evidence of paint? Glad you like the sound and feel of the H150. Its great when you find a guitar the just feels RIGHT! Welcome aboard, AP
tsp17 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 welcome! that is odd. looks like someone scrubbed the finish to remove something. who knows. that is a sweet guitar and with it real character.
chico Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 welcome aboard AP, we welcome you. that 150 looks sweet to me, HRWs are a bonus..no longer available BTW.. you will suffer the same fate as all of us.. that is GAS for more Heritages in the stable. I notice you have the Schaller tailpiece alot of us switch that out for the Nashville style tailpiece but either way it is a good pikup for you. look forward to more of your postings, we all love the newbies...
AP515 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 Hi AP515. Welcome to the HOC from another PRS forum member. (LC) Nice to see a person I already know. I seriously doubt that the neck and headstock had paint removed, as the serial number and Made In Kalamazoo MI USA are clearly evident. If that had been on paint, it would have been removed during the refinish. The neck and back of the body look to match pretty well. Have you looked in side the switch and electronics cavities to see if there is any evidence of paint? I agree that it wasn't disturbed, but do they paint the backs of the headstocks before they put on the numbers? I don't see woodgrain, I see paing under the numbers. It looks like the paint was removed on everything past the headstock but there is nitro on it now. Wierd. It doesn't matter though, I am still honeymooning with it.
Blunote Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 To the OP: You finally got a real Les Paul. Enjoy it. Its not drilled full of holes like swiss cheese to lighten it. The trapazoid fret markers aren't cheap plasitc, but real MOP. And the HRWs, are unique; able to provide some to the creamiest clean tones or raunchy distortion when you want it. It was the sound of HRWs though a blackface Fender that originally sold my first Heritage. Please post a review when you get a chance.
FredZepp Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Nice 150 Goldtop, it sounds like you found one that fits you. I can't say about the finish from those pics... If you haven't already done it, you may want to remove the back cavity plate and see if the label has any clues about the instrument... Welcome to the HOC !
AP515 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 If you haven't already done it, you may want to remove the back cavity plate and see if the label has any clues about the instrument... Just says Goldtop
gpuma Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 AP, you found a great axe and a great community! Welcome aboard! There is an incredible wealth of information with these guys here.
kbp810 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Very nice looking GT and welcome to the HOC! As said earlier, Heritage is essentially a custom shop, it might be possible that the original owner asked for a lighter filler/stain on the mahogany that's giving it the different look? Or it just could have been a different looking chunk of mahogany alltogether? Of course thats just adding another possible theory or two into the mix. Either way, if she sings pretty it just plain doesn't matter
Genericmusic Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 First of all, welcome. As far as the back goes, maybe someone cleaned it with naphtha?
SouthpawGuy Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 My lefty '03 vintage burst 150 is a very similar light coloured mahogany finish on the back of the guitar and it's serial number is just two days away from yours at T274xx. Yours is T272xx My guess is that they were both sprayed from the same batch of paint. It's actually just slightly lighter in colour than the pics.
Guest HRB853370 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Can we see a photo of just the backside? Glad you traded that POS, er I meant PRS for the Heritage, much better choice!!
JeffB Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Can we see a photo of just the backside? Glad you traded that POS, er I meant PRS for the Heritage, much better choice!! Check AP515's sig. I dont think he will be abandoning his PRS's soon.
tulk1 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 It all looks right to me, from what I can see in the photos. Nice GT. And since it says Gold Top, doubt it was a gold body as well. BTW, there are several Birds and Moons members here. I'm one. Love my '95 CE24; wouldn't part with it.
AP515 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 Can we see a photo of just the backside? Glad you traded that POS, er I meant PRS for the Heritage, much better choice!! Here is one I took but I don't have one of the whole back of the guitar. I can take a full one tonight. Check AP515's sig. I dont think he will be abandoning his PRS's soon. Right you are JeffB. Paul makes a pretty good guitar. I didn't intend to make this a PRS Vs. Heritage thing. There is room for both. The way I see it, PRS got his start because "G" wasn't making many quality instruments and there was a market for better. Heritage got their start because "G" left quality people behind in a business decision. Right or wrong for "G", in a way, they caused both. PRS has carved out a nitch by looking forward and making the best instrument they can. Heritage has carved out their nitch by looking back and making the best instrument they can. Seems like these should go together pretty well. ... there are several Birds and Moons members here. I'm one. Love my '95 CE24; wouldn't part with it. Glad to meet you tulk1.
SouthpawGuy Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Here is one I took but I don't have one of the whole back of the guitar. I can take a full one tonight. That looks the same as mine, my money is on a factory finish. btw mind me asking how much it weighs ? I'm guessing it's a light one, mine is 8.2lbs.

Gitfiddler Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I wish... 10.2 Lbs. When you strap that baby on, just think Tons of Tone! A wide strap might help distribute the weight for more comfort. My 150 is just over 9lbs and is a solid hunk of great tones. Congrats on your cool looking Goldtop and welcome to the HOC.
SouthpawGuy Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I wish... 10.2 Lbs. So much for the light colour = light guitar theory !
