hey curious.....what has Heritage made that would classify as getting a stratocaster sound & feel?

I've seen some of the superstrats of the '80's with the kahler/locking nuts, but am interested in more traditional stuff

thx!

I'll start with my Stat (on the left) It has the most Strat like neck and over all feel of a Strat of my three can openers. I love the way it plays and sounds. It probably has the most Strat like sound on the neck of the three, but it has plenty of balls on the bridge.

The Parsons Street (in the middle) is a bit of a conundrum. It doesn't feel or sound like a Strat at all. It's all growl all the time. Nice thick neck. I'm working on the Blues and it just does it for me with my Gibson GA25.

The H-162 (on the right) plays chunky, if that makes any sense. Even though it has the same neck and middle pickups as the Stat, it sounds muddy to me. Maybe it's the maple fret board (I know that's a whole other thread, but there aren't too many Heritages with maple boards), or the fact that the Stat has a mahogany body with a maple cap. However, the bridge is another story. It rocks, has meat, balls, mojo what ever you want to call it.

To sum it it up I love them all for diffferent reasons, and I know this wasn't really any help.

I plan on having them all at PSP V, so if your there you can try them all :)

Hey .. that H162 is a bolt neck , isn't it.. that's very strat like.. maple board and all.

The muddy pickups don't make sense.. maybe you need new pots or something.

Yes, that one does have a bolt on neck.

Maybe muddy isn't the right word, it just doesn't ring to me like the Stat.

I'm kind of anal about keeping stuff original, especially rare or unusual pieces.

I'll have Ren give it a listen at PSPV and get his unbiased :laugh_mini: opinion.

I love the humbucker position on the 162.

As we're on the subject of Heritage pointies here's my VIP2 custom, at least that's what's handwritten on the label.

Sounds nothing like a Strat. Mine has a set neck and sports a pair of HRWs for extra b@lls !

In lefty, no less!! Did you have that custom made?

It's a "C" serial '86 model, it most likely was a custom order at the time.

I got it about four years ago now and it was sent back to Heritage to have the pickups, a pair of JBs, replaced with HRWs.

It was also upgraded to D-VIP from the original VIP. The middle mini switch is now a kill switch, which is cool. B)

That looks beautiful!

Is the pickguard original?

I'm not normally a pickguard guy, but that one just seems to fit, if you know what I mean.

I bet it really kicks with the HRWs.

Thanks, yes the guard is original, with the guard and four knob layout it looks like a mix of a hot rodded strat Strat and an SG. There is certainly some kick from the HRWs, I have them lowered down below the pickup rings and it still has some poke in it.

Would it be sacrilegious if someone took one of those superstrats, and changed it to be more like a normal strat? Change the trem to a vintage trem, replace the locking nut with a standard one, route the top, put in some single coils, and cover all the mess with pickguard?

The VIP-1 is a bolt neck and the pickup does split into a single coil....

There was one on Ebay about a month ago and it ended with no bids, it is probably the same

If it's the same one, it's been on and off the bay several times. If I remember correctly, it had a BIN of $899. Too high IMNSHO

But at $750 and willing to haggle, it’s looking like a much better deal.

Yes!! I'll come back from beyond and haunt you!

Yes. Strats are all over the place. Heritage super strats are thin on the ground.

Buy a Strat and fubar that. :icon_sunny:
