What kind of acoustic guitar amps do you own?

I have a little Crate CA-30 with an 8 inch speaker. It has reverb and chorus. Very nice sounding little amp!

Fender Acoustisonic 30. Closed back, with Reverb and Chorus. I got it used a couple months ago, after A/B-ing it and a Peavey E-Coustic amp, both used. It was no contest.

Twin Reverb

I use a 50w p/channel Marshall. 2 channels, chorus, reverber assignable to both. 1 xlr input, DI on the back,, effects loop. Sounds pretty good.

SWR Strawberry Blonde has been my go to acoustic amp for years. It also sounds really good as a bedroom bass amp.

The best my acoustic-electrics ever sounded however, was through a Heritage Liberty. Go figure!

mine is called an O2

it's invisible, weights almost nothing, doesn't smell ( unless I had beans or cabbage for dinner ), and doesn't colour the sound

I pretty much just go straight to the desk after running through a little preamp and delay with a send back to a powered wedge. I like 15" speakers. They do wipe out some of the mids but the bottom end is fuller. Makes a little Yamaha APX500 sound like a D28.

At home I just play unplugged.

Those Carvin AG's are incredible amps, especially for the money.

I agree. I'm not overwhelmed by the on-board efx but I have plenty of other efx units I can run through the loop to make up for the rather outdated ones built in. Other then that I think it's real 'bang for the buck' winner.

i bought something called the Tweety. it is an external tweeter that you can use with any electric guitar amp external speaker jack. works pretty well to pick up the higher "acoustic" frequencies.

When I was looking for an amp, i settled for a Marshall AS50R. I say "settled" because without a doubt, the L.R. Baggs Accoustic Reference was the best, clearest I'd heard after demoing just about every accoustic amp at GC, and Elderly.

But after trying Crate, Fishman, Fender, and others, I decided to plug in the traditional looking Marshall, and was really surprised how good it sounded. So, I bought one.

Sadly, it doesn't get much use anymore. I generally play my accoustics sans amp. Mostly, these days, I play my Heritages, and the new G&L.

Best one I've ever tried out would be that Bose model that looks like a pole....

Yes, I run my Martin through a Baggs Para DI and into our Bose PAS system.

I've used Ultrasound, SWR and others, but a good alternative to a dedicated acoustic amp is to add a tweeter and a crossover to your current combo. Mine is home-built, but something like the Henriksen Tweety should work fine. Cost about $75 to build, or about $100 - 125 to buy.

To a Roland KC500 through a Yamaha AG Stomp. Sounds great !

What does the Baggs Para acoustic DI do Greg? What if you went directly from your acoustic to your Fender Twin?

Are tube amps better for acoustic guitar amplification than SS amp?

I really like the Roland AC-60. Has nice effects, works great as an Archtop amp. Comes with a cool Gig bag. If you needed more power, they make a 90 watt version.. I also find it useful when powering my POD HD as acoustic guitar amps work good with amp simulators. Nice little amp to check out. Don't let the size scare you away.

The Baggs allows for attenuating frequency ranges. The guitar would run away without it.

When it comes to amps, there is no best. Only what one likes. For me the twin is the guitar sound, just louder.

I have an AER Compact 60 - a small combo, but with a great sound, very clean. It has reverb/echo (a button selects which one) and I believe the Mark 2 version has chorus as well. Two inputs, one of which can take an XLR for a mic. http://www.aer-amps....=100261&lang=en

They're also quite popular with jazz guitarists - I believe Martin Taylor uses one.

Yeah, the AER is a pretty top-end acoustic amp -priced that way too.

I haven't played one but have often wondered how it would compare the the Baggs Accoustic Reference.
