Ridiculous or creative?

I have an 1993 LP studio---pro repaired minor hairline neck crack--never plan to sell--lots of bumps and bruises--want a ssb 157---is it possible to send the LP to K'zoo and have them refinish it (ssb), replace the pups/hardware and put a 157 PG on it?---Is it possible?--cost effective? It's obviously easier to buy a 157 (that will mean a lot of saving and cash isn't growing on trees in SC)--but the LP has much of the LP custom bone structure and plays really well. Plus--I'm attached to it and to improve this git this way would make it that much more...special. A sure question would be what to do w/ the headstock--don't know if H would even do it---Just a brainstorm---any thoughts?

I'm pretty sure that is a big NO. They're not really a refin shop. They have refinished a few of their own, even completely rebuilt a few we've seen here. Mostly they build their own. And to send a Gib to them? Don't think that would be the best idea.

Yes, it is possible. Just don't send it to Heritage. Instead, Pete Moreno or Aaron Cowles can do it.

You will have to decide whether it's cost effective. You won't get your money back when you sell it, if you sell it. On the other hand, you'll have your dream guitar.

Is it ridiculous? Of course. Much of what we do is. We are primarily emotional beings with little sense. If you don't believe me, take a look at any newspaper on any date. Nuff said.

I guess ridiculous is all according to perspective...and perception....I love the newspaper thing---so right on!....Tulk---I had the same caution abt the gibby to kzoo--but I thought--(clearly a long shot, but...) maybe taking what could be and making it what should be was something H is already doing and might be willing to think abt here.--I often consider that part of the Heritage appraoch considering the history and their dedication to continuing to do it right when others take different paths---One other thought...What abt the bindings?---Can an unbound git be bound during the refin process?

Even if it was cost effective, I seriously doubt the Heritage folks would touch it. They could however recommend a few people they may know that can refinish it for you. I doubt however, you'll make it look like a 157 because there is no binding on a LP Studio. I believe you can buy a 157 pickguard from them though.

I have e friend who took his 535 in for some work and along with it his (made in Kalamazoo) 1967 Epiphone. At first they told him no, but when he said "you made it" they agreed and did the work. I think it was just a set up on the Epi, which he bought new in 67. Granted it's not a gbrand, but I thought it was interesting.

Yeah.. I considered that for a moment... what if it's Kalamazoo made, would they do the work then ? I still think it would be tough to get any major work done by them... but it would be an instrument that they know, so maybe something very minor is possible .

It's cool that they finally agree to set up the K-Zoo Epi. ( I keep looking to fall into a great deal on one of those )

But a refinish.. on a nashville made LP... that doesn't seem like something that they would touch.

I do believe they like Epi alot better than Gibs. I've heard them speak well of them. Yeah, basically the same company. But not. Then again, they knew the Epi guys long before Gibs got their hands on them.

Wasn't Epi acquired around the same time Marv was hired by Gibson in the 50's?

I have a 92 Studio that I was going to sell for $725 bucks. I am going to keep it. Reason: Ebony Fretboard and it plays well.

Heritagefan7: does yours have the original pups (490/498)? If so, I'd keep it like it is and buy a H157 if you can, or when you can.

For what it would cost to refin, change hardware and electronics (all on a repaired headstock) ~ doesn't make sense to me. But often I don't make sense!

You gotta trust Fred on this one; He sent his G-Brand LP up to Marv to refinish it, and Marv ran everything but this gutted neck through a wood chipper! :laughing9:

Ha... good one. And yeah, Marv didn't need any old Gibby necks laying around Parsons St anymore...

That's awesome!...Machaeljames---I'm agreeing w/ you. I have those pups & the ebony board--I've had ths since 93--I bought it new and would never part w/ it--besides--it's been thru the wringer & still does the job everyday---But w/ the neck crack--although it sounds great--It swings in & out of tune.....And--I would like to get a "rest of my life" git.

So--could trade/sell the brand new MINT--USA Deluxe strat--house rules are if 1 comes in--one goes out. VERY HAPPY to get a used 150/157--but want an ebony board SSB---IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ON THE MARKET!---And frankly, I cant afford (prob never will be able to) to custom order.....I like the VSB & the OSB flame top as well. Places like GC make it easy to walk in & trade but of course you're getting ripped to the bone. I can't get to Wolfe to play a 150/157---but I'd trust Heritage over anyone and readily buy a new one sight unseen---I just can't freakin' afford it!

Pic below is identical to the Strat I bought except mine is an SSS........

Pete's doing my H-550. Marv Lamb and Bill Paige recommended him highly, and even talked to him on the phone while I was at the factory. He lives about 20 minutes from the factory. He's kind of swamped, and is trying to get all of the guitars done before summer... but he's a really nice guy- and highly competent.
