DetroitBlues Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I remember seeing a few old archtops like that from way back on some history websites before the dreadnought style came out
koula901 Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 That is one outstanding guitar, Fred. Did they stop making Centurion?
FredZepp Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 That is one outstanding guitar, Fred. Did they stop making Centurion? Only one was made.. it was the last guitar made in 1999 , with the idea that the last instrument to leave Parsons St. in the 20th century should be something special. No cost was spared and many features are unique.. the headstock , the 9 layer multi binding on body , multi binding f holes, 5 layer multi neck and headstock binding, Abalone hummingbird inlay by Maudie Moore, heart of abalone inlay on fretboard, custom selected premium woods, tap tuned front and back, deeper depth than Super Eagles, etc...
FredZepp Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 Put your name down for the 2999 guitar NOW, Katy! You know... they should do something special for 2017... 100th year anniversary of the Parsons St. plant...

So Fred, I don't believe I ever heard how you came to own The Centurian. Did you place the order, win a lottery, shoot a man in Reno just to watch him die? Feeble minds want to know. Oh, and it is real and it is spectacular!
byrdland Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 If you ever have to audition for a band, show up with that guitar, and open the case. Look at your watch and say "Oh my I'm late for tea". Close the case and leave saying "Keep in touch chaps". You'll get the gig. They won't even remember if you actually played or not. Absolutely beautiful guitar. Thanks for posting.
FredZepp Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 So Fred, I don't believe I ever heard how you came to own The Centurian. Did you place the order, win a lottery, shoot a man in Reno just to watch him die? Feeble minds want to know. Oh, and it is real and it is spectacular! The guitar was made for the head of the finishing department of Heritage at the time.. Larry Perkins. He had negotiated it being built as part of them moving him into that position. Then, years later.. he left Heritage and moved out west. But when they got there, his dog ate some things and suddenly need an expensive emergency surgery . He sold the Centurion to come up with some quick cash. He listed it here, but had no luck in a quick buyer as it was pretty expensive. So it was listed on eBay to sell it quick and I was familiar with it from the details that he gave here. .. and my bid won.. I remember that night as eBay told me that I had the highest bid... it seemed surreal. When I received the instrument... opening the case and seeing it in person was an extraordinary thrill. It is a large , imposing guitar that leaves no doubt that it's something special when playing it.
kbp810 Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I still remember the first time I saw it in person at PSPIII, it was quite the site to behold; like meeting one of your favorite rock stars in person - I can only imagine how awesome it must have been to have opened that case for the first time as it's owner. There is no mistaking that the Centurion is a celebrity amongst all other guitars.
bolero Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 It certainly is!! And we're fortunate someone like Fred owns it and posts pics/info etc....imagine if it was locked up in some vault in japan
RhoadsScholar Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Fred, thanks for the pics, sharing the certificate, and how you came about the guitar. A true work of art. A great piece of history you have there.
High Flying Bird Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I never get tired of looking at this one Fred.

DetroitBlues Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Wow, I always assumed you had that guitar designed and made for yourself a couple years ago. Reading that certificate just makes that guitar even more special then it already is!
