rookie Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Hi, I just got my beautiful H555, I am curious and would like to know the origin of the wood in my guitar? How can I find that? Thanks Rookie
FredZepp Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Ha.... Ren's answer.. Hi, I am curious and would like to know the origin of the wood in my guitar? That's easy... a tree.... ( a joke from one of our PSP tours.. )
FredZepp Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I believe the maple that they use is an eastern maple, It seems like there was a post mentioning different types of maple, but I think that the eastern maple.. from the northeast US. Can anyone narrow it down more than that...?

Can anyone narrow it down more than that...? I have a tad of insight on at least some of the maple. I bought some figured maple a couple of years ago from a millworking company in plainwell michigan. When i was talking to them about my project(which was making a couple of pickgaurds) i mentioned heritage guitar and they said they have dealt with them before on some wood, I'm guessing they supplied some curly maple because they put all thier figured maple that came in thier lumber supplies aside in a seperate pile. Now I know for a fact that select millwork gets alot of thier rough lumber from venaklausen lumber supply , which is located in grandrapids mich. venaklausen gets the majority of thier maple from northern michigan, traverse city-potosky area because i have some relation that is timber buyers and sells some of thier standing maple and cherry stands to venaklausen. I'm very confident in saying that thiers northern michign maple used in some heritage guitars, maybe not all but some for sure. hope this helps solve some of the mystery that revolves around some of the maple sources that heritage uses.
Dick Seacup Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Ha.... Ren's answer.. That's easy... a tree.... ( a joke from one of our PSP tours.. ) I came here to say this. Then I thought, "Nah, that's too easy." So I was going to post "well, ultimately it all comes from star dust..."
yoslate Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I was there at one of the PSP's (II or III) when Ren was asked this question. He couldn't have been more evasive if the question had been asked by a Senate Select Subcommittee....
BrianToth Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I'm curious as to why one would care? Just plain old curiosity? I've never given a thought as to where the wood for any of the many guitars I've owned over the years came from. Maybe that's just me, but Ren's answer works just fine.

Thats interesting Jayce, perhaps that wood came from the backyard of Brent's parents at the Barn where we have the PSP jam??
Kuz Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 I was told by one of the fellas, I forget which one, that their maple comes from Michigan. They also say they have a special forest that they get it from. Was it Ren or Marv that used to go out and inspect the wood. Anyhow, it comes from Michigan but that is all the info you will get from Heritage.
the jayce Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Thats interesting Jayce, perhaps that wood came from the backyard of Brent's parents at the Barn where we have the PSP jam?? Depends if brents parents sold any maple out of thier yard I suppose slammer. But like kuz stated, they use michigan hard maple at least at times. I dont see why they wouldnt, it's some of the finest quality maple in the world and it's within thier home state. But for you real die hard wood police, call up select millworking in plainwell mich, and ask, i'm sure you will get the same answer i did. Yep, I'd say most your figured tops and necks where born and raised right here in michigan. Enjoy!
skydog52 Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Being one of many HOCers from Michigan. There is nothing better than Michigan wood! ; )

Never could figger that out. I guess I am really a Up-er (pronounced yooper) since I was raised in the UP.
rooster Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 I'm with Fred Z. Trees... I think we can probably narrow it down a bit. Maple trees. HTH. rooster.
Gitfiddler Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Whenever I look at, pick up and play any of my Heritage gitfiddles, I know exactly the source of my wood.

Steiner Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I don't know why they didn't go to Jason's in Windsor to find a suitable outline for the flag. Eh?
Joe Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I don't know why they didn't go to Jason's in Windsor to find a suitable outline for the flag. Eh? Ahh, the Windsor Ballet.
