gary0313 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Can anyone help? This is the first dual humbuker pickup guitar I've owned. It's a late 2011 model. I just noticed today that in the middle pickup position, if I turn the either volume control all the way off it kills both pickups. Is this normal?
H Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Completely normal. Same for 150s too. Same for Les Pauls and 335s
bolero Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 yep, both volumes affect the sound in the middle position, so if you turn either completely way off it kills the signal this gives a range of cool sounds when the magnets are reversed/out of phase in one of the pickups
bolero Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 ...not to be confused with "partially way off" lol
High Flying Bird Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Yep, that's the way they work. I like to mess around with the volumes to blend the sounds of both pick ups. Also for hobby players like me it helps to keep the feedback down when you put the guitar down to go to take a leak.
DetroitBlues Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 completely normal.. Didn't know that at first, but I learned later on it was normal. For a really cool effect, keep one of the volume knobs completely off and you can use the toggle like a kill switch...
Franke Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 For a really cool effect, keep one of the volume knobs completely off and you can use the toggle like a kill switch... HA! I never thought to do that. clever idea that I'm totally stealing.
DetroitBlues Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I don't use it often... Not many of my solo's are extended enough for it.
