Ah, SCREW IT! (H-137 Pickguard content)

To be clear, I did NOT do this in response to being double-dog dared by DB. Watch your back, DB, when you least expect it, you're going to get a TRIPLE-DOG dare from me, haha. No, it's not like this 137 didn't have some bumps and bruises anyway, so it's not like I defaced a perfect guitar. In fact, as Lyle pointed out when he sent me the pickguard, there was a gouge in the top underneath the strings that the pickguard would cover. So, what the heck, I figured it would look as goodeither way, so I decided to put it on. I stopped by the music store on the way home, dropped $.97 cents for some black pickguard screws, came home, and put it on. There, ya happy?! :icon_salut::laughing9:

It's hard to see, but here's the gouge in the wood that the pickguard covers.

Now THAT's a good looking 137. +1 vote for the 'after' pics. (yes, now I'm happy... but I'm easily pleased...)

Personally, I usually prefer the pickguard. They were invented for a reason, and I hate splinters from worn out wood! Let Willie put a hole in his guitar.

Besides that, the black accents the P90s very nicely. The only question I have is about the bottom side... looks like it might be hanging a bit lower down by the knobs than by the cutaway.

Hell, I like it!

Looks good, Brian.

Of course, the extra weight you've now added to the already off-center body mass may cause an immediate headstock break, so watch for that.

And the screws you used probably weren't cadmium plated and anodized, so they'll foul up your intonation.

And I'm assuming you didn't apply the anti-magnetizing compound to the screw threads before installing them, so your pickups' output will be shot to hell.

Aside from that, everything's fine.

On the bright side the pick guard will prevent some of the mojo from escaping. Release bi weekly to prevent build up.

In it's original form...........perfect.

Sorry, but to me that's just atrocious.

A far less then perfect solution to a non-existent problem.

Aside from being a bit off on the symetrics, I like it. Those flat tops need pickguards. Or maybe finger rests. One of the two, anyway. Too bad they didn't get enough paint on the guitar, tho' .... :laughing7:

I like it, did you buy the guard somewhere are make it?

Sorry it's not your thing. I was good with it either way, and decided on this look. I'll put your vote down as a "no pickguard," although it's a moot point now.....

Brian,

I think the black pickguard really adds some flair to your 137 - I like everything about it - the color, the shape - it adds pizzazz.

I don't know Koula, I doubt he wants pizzas on his guitar.
