Help w/ Schaller Roller Bridge & Fret Buzz

Just changed strings on the 574--sounds great. 2 probs. 1) Fret buzz, esp on 6,5 & 4 & esp b/w 3rd-7th frets. 2) The high e string is too close to the edge of the fretboard & always has been---can I adjust this on the Schaller Roller Bridge?--If so--does anyone know how?

AND---is this something I should try to adjust or considering both issues, should I take it to someone? My Luthier moved so I don't have anyone here anymore--would love to fix this myself, but don't wanna get too deep w/o some oversight or help. Thx much!

When I bought my H555 new in 1995 the E string was so far to the edge of the fretboard and I kept breaking the string.I took it to a Luthier who had to cut a new nut, because the original came was cut just awful and could not be cut. it was woth the $60 at the time not to ship it back to Heritage for repair. That solve the problem and I have been playing it since as my go to guitar.

Set the string spread (distance between high and low E's measured on the bridge) to 2.0". Your string shouldn't flop over the fretwire then.

Buzzing from the 1st to 7th frets sounds like the truss rod might need loosening. I'd go 1/4 a turn and see if that fixes it. If it helps but isn't enough, add another 1/8th turn.

When I changed the string on the 140 before I changed to a tonepros, the schaller parts would move freely with the slightest touch. Sounds like you need to make an adjust to the string spacing and the bridge height.

Rusty, if its a string change... does the truss rod need adjusting? The bridge does have a spin wheel to adjust height too.

Guy, I thought about you and our recent conversation when I changed these strings. Thanks for all fo the help everyone. I just need to get in there and work w/ it. The string on the roller bridge seems to be an easy fix--Not having done so before, I'm nervous abt adjusting the truss rod. Please forgive my ignorance here, but would ask grace as I was a part of the rhythm section for 25yrs prior to having gits. Do I need a special sized/fitted allen wrench to do this?

An Allen wrench won't work. You should get a truss rod wrench. Heritage uses the standard Gibson size.

As long as you don't get too rambunctious with the wrench and do small adjustments, you should be fine.

I use a nut driver on my Heritage truss rod, the kind with a screw drive handle. I put a capo on the first fret and hold the string down on the last fret. Measure the gap between the string and the 8th fret (low and high E strings) with a feeler gauge (like one used for spark plugs) I usually go for about .010" or so which is a pretty low action but it is up to your own taste. Tighten (clockwise turn )for less relief (straighter neck) and lcounter clockwise for more relief. Little turns at a time usually 1/8 of a turn or so at a time.

And the rollers do turn on string changes from time to time but they are adjustable.

You can loosen the truss rod without detensioning the strings, but I'd advise against tightening without first loosening up the strings. Then only 1/4 turn, retighten, give it several hours to adjust. If needs more backbend then detension, tighten the truss rod nut a 1/4 turn and retune. If you don't have a truss rod wrench, I think it's a 5/16 nut; I've used a straight socket driver.
