tulk1 Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I've been working on the Leon Rhodes, fixing a few things here and there. Took it to rehearsal today, band really loved it this time. Lots of spanky goodness with a touch of real heavy under the hood. However!, it gets a bit thin on the upper end. No matter whether it's the custom coils or the SD JBjr. But lordy that guitar just loves the Mesa TA, run on 25w. After rehearsal we headed out to a jam a friend runs. We did several songs, sounded pretty dandy. But still thin on the top end. Coming off stage the guy whose amp I'm using comes up and says something about sounding pretty good. I mention the highend thing. Now, here's the turn. Years ago we had a guy in KC that was THE guitar man. This guy traveled all over fixing people's guitars. Last I'd seen of him he was headed to Europe to be the guitar tech for .... argh!! I forget who, but they had good radio play. Anyway, he takes the Leon, after mentioning he'd never seen a Hertiage in that config. Yeah, he knows Heritage guitars. Says it's fretting out. "Hey Ken, let me fix this for you". "Uh, thought you weren't doing guitar work anymore" "When I had the shop I felt I had to work for anyone that walked in the door. Not now. I have a very very short list of people I'll do work for" "Hecks yeah!!!" So, Scotty Yates, repair tech to the minor gods has my Leon R and is fixing it up. The whole shebang from top to bottom, frets included. I'm pretty stoked about it. And just wanted to share.
FredZepp Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 And soon , that Heritage Leon Rhodes will hit full stride and be serving some Kalamazoo Tele gumbo, like it's supposed to be served. Congrats on the luck with the good tech..
schundog Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 A most excellent turn of events! Obviously, your clout as a guit-slinger, along with being an all-around good guy got you onto this guys short list. I for one am looking forward to hearing how great this turns out. Any idea on an ETA?

Any idea on an ETA? That'd be my take on it as well. Sounds like it may no longer be on the block. It'll be cool to see what you think when it's all dialed in. Cool stuff Kenny. The blessings that come from puttin' yourself out there....
tulk1 Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 Scotty says he'll have it done Thursday. I'm out of town on business until Thursday evening. Should get it Friday. Then at the gig on Saturday for it's run thru. I tried the Leon on stage a couple of times when we were in Jackson, WY. The OBls just got lost in the mix. Had no "cut". Hopefully the custom BGs will punch thru a bit better; and I know the JB will. Scotty once set up my Fender Jazz bass. I had told him I was basically a guitar player that was doing duty on the lower end. He had a set up just for that scenario. Telling ya, this guy truly is ALL that. Yeah, I'm feeling pretty luck to be included on his "short list". And yeah, I confirmed it was a "short list" and not the "sh*t list".
DetroitBlues Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I have the no high end many times, but usually that's the result of the setup. I started using more dirt and a boost for my soloing to get my high end to cut out. But that may not be the case in your part. Besides, its never a bad idea to have a pro go over your guitar once a year or more depending on how often it gets used. Hopefully, we'll get some pic's from Saturday of you using it on stage!
Kuz Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Ah, Yes, I remember Kenny when...... Now he has Scotty Yates as his guitar tech and Czar Diaz as his amp tech. Ah, how quickly they leave the nest.... Seriously though, that would be super cool if the Heritage Tele will work out for the band!!!!!

Or too tired. I'll have my people draft a reply ................ Yeah, thinking the Leon might work out in most situations. This Sat is a non-smoking bar, so most likely the wifey will show up and take pics. Last time she took 110 pictures.
