koula901 Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Which one more closely approximates the sound of a 535?
DetroitBlues Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I'd imagine the Millie only because its semi hollow body and the Prospect isn't. (Not truly anyway, floating center block). But the body size difference may make them sound the same... Very difficult to tell for sure. Sort of you need to try and see for yourself, which few of us can do.
SouthpawGuy Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Closest to a 535 is the Prospect. The Millie sounds and feels more like a solid body guitar, mine with HRWs does a very mean hard rock / '80s metal tone, especially the bridge pickup. The Prospect with Seths is a lot less in your face, great for a slight od blues tone and up to classic rock sounds, not really happening though for metal. A Millie with '59s probably wouldn't sound that far off a 150LW with the same pickups. All in my opinion of course, we all hear and expect different things from each guitar.
Gitfiddler Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Based on the design similarities of the Prospect to the 535, they should sound similar, yet different. However, if you ordered your Millie with F-holes it could bring it close to a 535. Depending on how it is customized the Prospect and Millie could sound closer to each other than to a 535.

Spectrum13 Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Having one on each as well as a 555 type... Prospect. Prospect with a full block would be as close to a 535 as you could get.

Got to play one recently, PunkKitty's with the Schallers. I can see that coming close, even with the floater. What a sweet guitar. I think, should the opportunity arise, I'd consider a swap.
skydog52 Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I've never played a Prospect. I have 2 Millies and love them. Has anyone ever seen a Prospect without the f holes?

I would differ greatly from DB's opinion, which is based on what? He hasn't owned either one! Not bashing him, but a Prospect is pretty much a 535 with a smaller body. A millenium is more of an H 150 with a hollowed out body, very similar to an H 150LW according to Bill Paige.

bolero Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I miss my prospect, it was like a lp sized 535: very comfy and had great tones I have a Millie but its maple with f holes so not a great comparison.. .it compliments a 535 well though I would say a prospect approximates a 535 as much as a different design could
tulk1 Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 If either one was supposed to sound like a 535, they'd have named them 535jr or something like that. Or ... not I've had 2 Millie's, 2 535's and 2 Prospects. The first Millie was a true semi-hollow, not semi-solid. Laminate top/back; maple sides; center block. And it didn't sound like a 535 at all. My second Millie is the NFH and it reminds me more of a 150LW than a semi-solid/hollow. The first Prospect was a traditional design - circa 1999. Very bright, even with the Schallers; thin-ish neck. My second one is the Custom Prospect. My fav Heritage ... ever! Not sure it approximates the tone or feel of the 535s, either. It's somehow different. Could be the design, could be the PhatCats, could be the extra thick neck profile. Not sure. But it's certainly a distinctive sound. But what is the "sound" of a 535, anyway?

That's not going to happen. I love my Prospect.
DetroitBlues Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Not to mention Prospects are rare, even more so being a lefty...
kidsmoke Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 That's not going to happen. I love my Prospect. no, no. wasn't thinking about yours. I meant in general, I could see a one in/one out event involving my 535 and A prospect. Of course after reading Kenny's comments, perhaps that's not possible.
