that'd be very "suthren" of him (& more like "Gibson's"). it's like in Southern Iowa, too. if a biz uses a family name, then it's natural to refer to it as a possessive.

look for the Gil Hembree book on Gibson McCarty years. lots of interviews, incl. Jim, Marv, & J.P.

Amazing! He has such a Southern drawl still and he does indeed refer to that company as Gibsons. Legendary stuff!
