fabiojazz Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Hello everybody! I am new to the forum, I recently bought a used '92 H-150 (the control plate label says "H-150cm ACB). I have to say that it sounds and feel really cool, I've been playing for 15 years and this is just the sound I need for jazz and blues, i am very happy with it. I compared it to a new LP standard and a historic customshop at the guitar shop where I bought it and I really preferred it, maybe beacuse it has already played for about 20 years? I don't know, anyway, I am just curious about a fact: the neck finish is black and I have never seen it on any H-150. Maybe it has been repainted? I don't see a discontinuity between the SN part on the headstock and the rest of the neck, but it does not have the feel of a nitro finish. Here is some pictures, Thank you! Fabio
big bob Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I like it that way! My guess would be it was re sprayed at some point.
golferwave Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Hi fabiojazz and welcome to the HOC! - Your Heritage looks great with the contrast of neck and body. ACB is antique cherry burst and the flame in the maple top is fine! I'm pretty sure it didn't come from the factory with that color on the neck so big bob's theory of a repaint is a good one. I'll throw another thought out there... that it could have suffered a break and had a new neck installed. Heritage parts are probably not plentiful in Europe so the black neck may have been what someone had on hand and in it went. Congratulations on your new guitar and enjoy!
Gitfiddler Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 If that is a neck replacement or even a refin, how'd they get the Serial Number and Kalamazoo identifiers back on there? Does Heritage have another location of the SN in the control cavity to cross check? Either way, it's a cool looking 150!
Kuz Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Maybe it had a headstock break and after it was repaired the owner decided to have the whole neck painted/refinished. Anther possibility could be that the previous owner didn't like the feel of nitro finish and had it refinished with poly.
tbonesullivan Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 the entire neck is black, and it's got a heritage serial number AND stamp on it. That's not something that can be applied outside of heritage. If it had a new neck put on, it was done at Heritage. Or, maybe someone ordered it that way. I don't see any possible way it could have gotten that stamp unless it was refinished or replaced at heritage. I'm gonna put my money on factory custom. I've seen stranger things asked for.
gpuma Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Maybe originally the neck had a stinger and it was repainted except for the back of the headstock?
tbonesullivan Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Maybe originally the neck had a stinger and it was repainted except for the back of the headstock? that's also a possibility, though the stinger covers just about all of the standard area that a headstock break would happen on. On heritages with stingers, are the sides of the headstock painted black as well?
big bob Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 You could very easily feather new lacquer around the serial#, I've done it ! not to cover a head stock break. Black is easy to shoot and sand... hard to buff.. and keep clean.
fabiojazz Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 Hello everybody and thank you for he useful answers, actually the refinish covers a headstock break. It was very difficult to see and neither me either the dealer were able to see it. Finally he behaved honestly dropping the price of about 40%.
