Guest HRB853370 Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Last one before I pull the Schaller bridge and tailpiece Now why would you do that? Was Big Jim vacationing in Europe? That is a very very stunning top. Nice score on that! I guess Big Jim is still downsizing his voluminous collection!
heritagefan7 Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 What a great connection and an awesome git!!!! Awesome on all fronts!
Guest HRB853370 Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 You're right, from the distance I took the photos it truly is an amazing top. However, this is a 1990 guitar and it's been gigged and played extensively. There are a lot of marks on the top that are visible from a couple of feet away, marks that I was fully aware of before I bought it, that I will have assessed by a local luthier to see whether he can replicate the ASB finish. So there we have it - the camera can lie when you only let it show what you want to be shown Character marks are good! However, if you must, I bet your luthier can take off the clearcoat, flush out the dings and recoat it!
schundog Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Congratulations, H! Beautiful guitar, and very cool that you were able to enjoy time with and become friends with a fellow HOC-er from the States! Enjoy that sweet 150.
Hfan Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Congrats Howard, that is a beauty..good things come to those who wait. Nice having a matched pair..guitars that is. I would leave the honest play wear and apply the saved refinish fees towards your next Heritage. Guitars with a few dings are more relaxing.. for me anyway.. Nice story that you got together with Jimbob. Isn't he building you one as well?
H Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 Thanks Pete Yep, Jimbob and our friend Jeff at BandmateUSA are building my Electrabird. The body is currently on its way to me and the neck is being lacquered at the moment.

Hfan Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Yes Now Pete, tell me are you really a fan of Howard? Is JimBob a guitar maker? Yes, actually I am the chairman of the NJ chapter of the Howard fan club. He helped me several times to aquire the hard to get in the States Schaller p up surrounds (rings). Howard is a good guy.

H Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 I have heard that he is! Send me an application. Do you need some Schaller mounting rings?
H Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 Is JimBob a guitar maker? Have a look at this thread, Slammer: http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/topic/15571-new-build-hoc-members-trans-atlantic-collaboration/
Guest HRB853370 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Have a look at this thread, Slammer: http://www.heritageo...-collaboration/ So Jimbob IS a guitar builder I take it? Or is this just a venture into the unknown? Pretty cool that you found out he can do such things, and from so far away. Will this be another delivery in person? There is so much talent on this forum it is unbelievable. But that wouldn't include me! Unless you need a fraud investigated!

He and our friend Jeff at BandmateUSA built it. Jim is learning the trade from Jeff. The guitar body is somewhere between Chicago and me at present, courtesy of USPS. The neck will follow in a couple of weeks. I should have fitted all the hardware to the body by then.
Jimbob Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Wow! I didn't see this thread until just this moment, but please allow for me to clarify a couple of things. Howard and I indeed agreed to the sale of this guitar last September, and it was at a time when I knew I would would be visiting family in Paris (still here, BTW). I never thought Howard would ever agree to wait so long for such a transaction to occur, but he is definitely a very patient man. I've also found that he's one heck of a great guy, too......even if he does tend to drive on the wrong side of the road.....LOL. As I've seen Big Jim's name mentioned on this thread as well, it might also be good to note that I actually bought this guitar from Big Jim quite some time ago as well, so that may be the reason why some are thinking this may have been Big Jim's guitar. In the end, though, my wife and I spent an incredible weekend in the UK with Howard and his family, and it was a great privilege to be able to personally deliver a guitar to him. Enjoy in good health! BTW, I wouldn't refinish it myself......it's already got some great mojo going for it!
mark555 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Beautiful guitar Howard, and I totally agree with you on taking out that bridge and stop piece. And, what is more, that's another great Heritage in the UK. A question for you, did you manage to get it through customs without paying any tax on it? By the way, I'll register my interest in it now in case it ever comes up for grabs!

brentrocks Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 WOW!!!! I have to admit...that would look great in VSB
H Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 WOW!!!! I have to admit...that would look great in VSB Already got a beautiful VSB I was thinking a green to purpleburst for this one.
High Flying Bird Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Hand delivered. Hard to beat that. Good looking 150. What pups are you going to stick in it?
H Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 Hand delivered. Hard to beat that. Good looking 150. What pups are you going to stick in it? Thanks Ron I really like the sound of the Schallers that are sitting in this one so I guess my tinkering will start and finish with the string-related hardware. Tone Pros both ends.
High Flying Bird Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I really like the sound of the Schallers that are sitting in this one ..... They do sound good. Joe likes them better than the 59's he had in his 150.
H Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 They do sound good. Joe likes them better than the 59's he had in his 150. Same for me. My VSB 150 came with SD 59's and I didn't like them much. The Schallers seem to be lower output and sound a bit more 'vintage'.
yoslate Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Stunner, Howard! Immaculate! Congratulations! Don't know that i'd refin. Nothing wrong with honest playwear!
