garsurf Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Recently picked up a 535 on the Bay and have had a couple of rehearsals with it but my first gig as a Heritage owner was Saturday night. I cannot tell you all how stoked I am with this axe! I have never had so much confidence with a guitar on stage before. (FYI - classic rock cover band.) The intonation was perfect and it stayed in tune beautifully. Moving away from a tele to this darker and warmer tone really helped separate me from the other guitarist, and we were able to get much more playful as a result. It was fun playing with the pickup settings and I enjoyed going straight with the neck pup on the quiter songs. The really cool thing is that I use in ear monitors so it was awesome to hear how great the guitar sounded. Man, I think it even made me sing better! Playing it, the feel, weight and balance were all perfect. Sitting on a stand on front of my silverface Princeton Reverb, my rig got more than a few glances at the break (I think a lot of folks expect it is a 335 then are a bit puzzled whrn they see the headstock - what is a "The Heritage"?). Anyway, just had to get this out there. As far as equipment upgrades helping the band's cause, this one will go a long way!
kidsmoke Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Awesome! congrats on the new guitar. Pretty awesome when something exceeds your expectations! Welcome to the forum, as well. Tell us more about the 535...p'ups, finish, vintage..... And you know the old adage... pics, or it didn't happen.
ledzef Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 It's such a versatile guitar, your band should be able to expand on songs and sound with no problems. Glad to hear it worked so well for you.
garsurf Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 It's a 2008 with a dark burst...is there such thing as tobacco burst? Came loaded with Throbak DT-102 (short A5s) in both neck and bridge. The seller was bummed he could not scavenge these and sell with the original Seth Lovers, since the Throbaks cost $480. They are super hot and the neck pickup almost hums on 10, so I roll both pups down to 7-8 for volume and tone. I imagine for lead you'd want to dime it but I play rythmn and am looking for that mellow salve to our lead players Strat. Not knowing anything about Throbaks but their value, and since it has trap inlays, I jumped on this guitar for the $1600 start price and am kinda shocked there were no other bids. I now realize I really scored, and think these pickups sound very good. I cannot wait to check out all the musical avenues this guitar can take me down! photos pending...experiencing knucklehead issues trying to attach a jpeg here.
smurph1 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Great to hear about a Heritage in action +1..I need to start using mine more..
Guest HRB853370 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Lots of 535 addicts on this forum, me included. Ask Yoslate about his 535 on stage in performance, I think he now plays it exclusively on gigs. Congratulations and good luck to you!
Gitfiddler Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Garsurf~ Man, you sound totally stoked after your 535 gig! With that guitar and a Silverface Princeton...Who wouldn't?!
High Flying Bird Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Here we go.... next you will be posting new guitar day messages for a H-150 and a H-137. Congrats Garsurf, we are all snake bit by Heritage here.
garsurf Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 I am TOTALLY stoked. Yes, with the PR the tone is unimagianably good, so I can't blame my equipment for suckage anymore! I was really confident and taking chances in my playing, especially during "jam" sections, and I felt like the guitar was just guiding me through. I guess my epiphany is that you really get what you pay for with things, and this is by far the most expensive guitar I have owned. I'm not a cheapskate, just have mostly played Tele's and a medium/low end Martin acoustic. The 535 is SO well made it has an awesome feel and and depth of sound that I have not experienced with my other guitars. Plus I am a big tall guy so the size totally works for me, and it just had to be a good look for me as well. Anyway, I will now go back to lurking, but, again, just had to share my feedback. I am a happy owner and realize that not alot of folks seem to know about Heritage...just curious, do we like it that way?
kidsmoke Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I am a happy owner and realize that not alot of folks seem to know about Heritage...just curious, do we like it that way? Very Tactful! Yes we want EVERYONE to know, with the exception of anyone selling one that I wish to buy.
garsurf Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me, HFB...yes I am bit by the bug but can't see adding to the herd ($$$). Kid in college fer cryin out loud! I am looking at some of the HOC members gear profiles...or should I say retirement nest eggs?!? Wowsa! Hate to say it but I think I'm good for a while!

Oh, I feel your pain, mine is long out of college. You need to give it a mate, perhaps a 150?
kidsmoke Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Oh, I feel your pain, mine is long out of college. You need to give it a mate, perhaps a 150? ahem.....cough cough.....!!!!
yoslate Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Wow, garsurf, your experience and context mirror mine very, very closely. Rhythm player, primarily; play with a "Strat cat;" I often use a Princeton Reverb (frequently daisy-ed with a 5E3 clone); and, yes, I think I'm a better player when I shoulder that thing (although I have four other marvelous Heritages with which to rotate it). Congrats on the 535. They are 'The Note"!!!
garsurf Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 ^^You need to give it a mate, perhaps a 150? Thanks, but I really think I'm good for now. (Repeat to self: I'm good for now, I'm good for now...)
212Mavguy Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 You are most assuredly NOT good for now, you are in one of the most corrupting forums in all things Heritage guitar related, overflowing with men and women of influence in developing the kind of GAS that even Rolaids can't fix. Just a few years ago, I joined, I remember having only one Heritage guitar, now I have five. Watch your ass. ;~)p and Welcome!

Put the picture on photobucket then paste the IMG link here. On the pickups, I have Seth Lovers in an Epi Dot (I know, its not a Heritage), but I rather love the tone of them for blues and rock. I wouldn't dismiss those pickups by any means.
garsurf Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o559/garsurf/Heritageguitar.jpg[/img] Thanks DB...hopefully this works... After doing my homework I was actually seeking something with Seth Lovers. I figured I could always sell the Throbaks and drop some in, and come out ahead in the deal. But I like what I'm hearing for now!
kidsmoke Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 that's a 535?? Traps? bound headstock? ThroBaks? 1600.00? would you be willing to stop off and buy a lotto ticket on my behalf for the mega millions? you seem to have the planets on your side.
garsurf Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 Hey, I posted a link on HOC during the auction and only heard crickets...just sayin'! (oh, yeah, free shipping too...)
