sykofiddle Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Tomorrow.... http://www.gbase.com/gear/heritage-h530-2012-vintage-wineburst 6.1 lbs, 1 11/16 nut, TV Jones pickups, and vintage WB. Now all I need is my thumbpick, a blackface PR, and some train grooves.... we gone!!
fxdx99 Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 TV Jones?! Do tell! Wowser - congratulations! I hear your train 'a comin'...
sykofiddle Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 Here's the truth - never played them. I've been an acoustic fingerpicker or tele player for as long as I can remember and the Gretsch rockabilly sound never appealed to me that much. I like the way some players sound who play Gretschs, but it just never felt right for me. But the demo video showing the wide range of tones you can get from these pickups with this particular guitar was very compelling. The other consideration is playing in a band with another tele player. I want to try something a little potentially fatter to complement, but something still sufficiently twangy and clean when needed. No idea if any of that makes any sense, but them's the facts.
Spectrum13 Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 That is unique. Wow I thought they did the TV's in 535 but in a 530! Congratulations!
H Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Very nice I bet that has a little of the George Harrison Country Gentleman going on too
FredZepp Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Very cool specs... something a bit different , and sweet. This is the second H530 made with TV JONES Classic pickups. This hollow body ES330 style instrument has been available (designed by Wolfe Guitars) for several years now with the awesome Lollar P-90's, and we've been after Heritage (for TWO years) to make us some with TV Jones wonderful vintage style pickups. AND- we will soon have them with our special low friction Bigsby setup and a host of optional features & colors.
High Flying Bird Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Congrats! Buffalo Springfield sure got some rockin' tunes from their Gretsches.
sykofiddle Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 Well there you go. George Harrison, Buffalo Springfield, can't go wrong there! If you guys haven't done so, check out the video demo of this guitar in the original link. The guy at Wolfe does one video through a blackface clone fairly clean, and one through a bassman. He focuses on the versatility of the tone which really comes through to my ears. And the pickups never seemed to get muddy, even when he rolls the tone off on the neck pickup.

tulk1 Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 So .. that's a Hollow Body 535 size? Whew!! And with TV Jones pickups. Not sure what that really means tonewise. But sure looks cool. Nice snag. Back at PSPI we got to see Marv's prototype H150 with the very first Wineburst paint job. That is going to be killer on that hollow body.
DetroitBlues Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Wow, full thinline hollowbody with TV Jones! Time to break out some Rockabilly records! Way too cool. Congrats!
sykofiddle Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 Thanks for the well-wishes! Tonewise I'm a sucker for vintage clean sounds. Twang is good, warmth is good, and lots of dynamic range is good. That's why I've always played teles and strats with tube amps and no pedals. I want to try something different and P-90's are close but not quite "chimey" enough. Plus, it's hard to argue with a thinline fully hollow guitar on the old back.....
DavesNotHere Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 VWB is, IMO, an under rated finish. I've yet to see a photo that does it justice. That is a beautiful guitar.

sykofiddle Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 oh my ! You know, my UPS guy looks exactly like this.
Steiner Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Now we know why you spell your handle funetically. That looks like the bird that Ron likes to photograph.
Guest HRB853370 Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 oh my ! Now that looks like my UPS deliveryperson!

DavesNotHere Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Dave, why is it I keep having to prove you wrong? Does this change your "IMO"? I LOVE VWB! I want a VWB! I still say that there is a subtle beauty that is lost in a photograph of that finish. Maybe it's lost in the monitor, I don't know, but when I hold one in my hand I can see the depth, the subtle beauty of the finish. When it catches the light just right it takes my breath away.
