MartyGrass Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Here's how the Millenium Eagle 2000 arrived that I bought on eBay. The seller didn't even box it. I took this pic because I was horrified. Then I opened the case. Headstock was fine, but there was trouble. The neck pickup was ailing and the ring broken.
SouthpawGuy Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Sorry to hear this, what kind of person ships a guitar like that ?
tulk1 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Not the first we've seen here shipped like that. But yeah ...
MartyGrass Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 There is a small scrape on the top. There are scraped on the side of the neck where it rested against the case. And there is a chip off of the binding. So what did we learn, boys and girls? First, putting the case in the box might be a good idea. The padding around the case would have decreased the impact of the case on the guitar. Second, pad the guitar within the case. Fortunately, all is well documented. I've given the seller a couple of choices. He can either take the guitar back or pay to restore it. I don't know if the binding chip can be repaired, but if it can be done, Kalamazoo can make it happen. The guitar is a very nice instrument with a medium neck and a pretty finish. This chestnut burst has much less red that in my other Millie. A shame.
tulk1 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Mark, are you sure the guitar didn't have those problems before it was "shipped"? The case is designed to carry the guitar. I'd hope that mar on the neck didn't come from the case. And the chip - just doesn't seem like the guitar being the case would cause that. Unless there are dent's in the case where the chip is. The pickup - hard to see from your picture, but did the screw come out; or did the ring break thru? Whichever, it isn't right. Either cause by shipping or non-disclosed at sale. Best of luck getting it righted.
DetroitBlues Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Are you sure the screw on the mount for the pickup didn't just fall out? I know on my old 140, it went through a few rings because the curve of the ring wasn't as as rounded as the top.
fretless Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Good Lord what a dope , needless to say a feedback smack is due .
MartyGrass Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 I have pics the seller took on his iphone just before I bought this. The pickup probably fell in because the screw loosened in transit. I have the screw and have a hunch the spring is on the other side of the pickup. The scrapes on the neck are from the case. They line up perfectly. But I can't tell if they are from shipping or not. Note the case is not what Millies usually come in. The neck flops around in the support it has, and the cloth has worn through on the part of the case that touches the scratched area. The chip could have come from dropping the guitar in or out of the case. Pickup ring cracks are common. I don't know when the damage occurred. But this is a looser fitting case with no internal or external padding. If this was the first time something like this went wrong, it would get my blood pressure up. I've been around this block too many times now. It'll work out.
MartyGrass Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 Good Lord what a dope , needless to say a feedback smack is due . I'm afraid the consequences may be a bit harsher than that. Remember, the Tin Man carries an axe.
Guest HRB853370 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Not sure how you bought it but if its Ebay you have their buyer protection 100%
fretless Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 What shipping company would even accept this un-boxed ?
MartyGrass Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 The 100% buyer protection plan sometimes works, sometimes not. I've already put a dispute in. I've been down this road before a few times. FedEx Ground did the shipment. I've had the same thing happen with UPS though, although there was no problem. This is Heritage's first Millenium made. The case could have been for a 357 or something else. It has cushions fitted for the body. The current form fitted case fits it well.
DetroitBlues Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Ah, so its a rare model.. I'm surprised it slipped through the cracks escaping Brent's prowlness for rare Heritages...
Kuz Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Just when I thought people can't get any dumber........ Do you really HAVE to tell the SELLER HOW TO SHIP A GUITAR???? Then again, I did have a friend with my last job that had an acoustic guitar with him at the hotel in NJ where we we at training for 3 weeks. He was from Atlanta and flew to NJ. I saw the Yamaha guitar and regular cardboard case and asked him where the box was he brought it in or if he carried it on the plane with him. He said, 'Nope, just put in general bag check on the case handle , why would I need a box?". HOW that guitar survived in a flimsy case I have no idea. People are just plan stupid.

I would say other than the serious P.I.T.A. and waste of time , it will go your way in the end .They will require pics like you have and all of that . You will also probably have to ship it back . If it were me I would already have posted a scathing -neg.
Gitfiddler Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Marty~ Sorry about the packing issue and damage to that new Millie. What a shame, especially considering that instrument's provinance. If you end up keeping it, the binding scrapes might be minimized with careful sanding with super fine grit paper.
FredZepp Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Wow... that's a bummer. The list of issues are odd.. with most relating to the case not fitting the guitar really. It's too bad it wasn't just a smooth transaction, but shipping that way in that case it was doomed to have some issues.
FredZepp Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 The only shipping problem that I've had (knock on wood) was a broken toggle switch on a 157. And that was caused by the case being too tight in that area, it would have been fine if the plastic tip had been taken off. But I got such a good deal , I just had it repaired.
brentrocks Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 There is no excuse for that kind of foolishness!!! Sorry Mark...i hope it can be saved
smurph1 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 What? I avoid E-bay..Just had some personal bad experiences..Decided not to buy there anymore..
