ok, lindy fralin took 2 weeks to get back to my luthier who is a dealer????????????????????

So, in the meantime, I ordered a set of wolftone marshallheads for it. Wolfe was amazing to deal with and called me just to chat about pups. He also said that if the neck was too hot, he would rewind it or send me a dr. vintage instead, no charge..................

I just got the guitar back yesterday, lefty pots make a huge difference, the righties were just weird, new caps and the wolfetones. My luthier was blown away, said he installed some legends last month and loved those as well.

No more dull and muddy neck pickup, the marshallhead growls like you wouldn't believe. Its really hot. Pups are done in paf style, but 9k for bridge and 8.2k for neck.

For now, all I can say is OMG....

Yes, strings can make that big a difference.

Elixir Nano-webs can be very dead sounding.

I was talking to Chuck Thornton the other day about strings and we both agreed that Daddrios are some of the brightest strings out there.

Bright in a good way? I've had some similar questions lately. I haven't tried many different types. Been buying the D Addario 10 packs for some time. Pretty satisfied maybe with the exception of my 575 (D Addario bright Jazz 012's with a wound G), which I have considered experimenting with if anyone want to weigh in.

Never tried Elixirs. I called Heritage years ago and I think they said the 575 came with GHS though I am foggy on that.

Have found that flatwounds still need to be replaced after about 100 hours of hard playing, as opposed to 30 or so with roundwounds. Especially since only the bottom 4 strings are actually flats, the $11-12 they're going for nowadays is not worth it. Like the sound of roundwounds after about 20 hours of playing; all of the ringing edginess is gone by then, yet they don't sound dead or thunky. I play jazz, with a heavy emphasis on Kesselish chords on my 550.- Charley Bevell, Bloomington, IN

Nice to hear, Alfonzo. Was on the phone with Wolfe just yesterday. Ordered just what you looked at, Marshallhead at the bridge, Dr Vintage at the neck, for my Nash Les Paul. It's a very "woody" guitar, which needs some punch and clarity. I'm really looking forward to getting them in! Wolfe is astonishingly easy to deal with!

I've never cared for Elixirs on anything. I honestly think they are the reason so many people don't like the tone of Taylor guitars. Get those Elixirs off of there and put some good Phosphor Bronze strings on and hear the guitar come to life.

So many people? Is this based on a survey? I'd like to see the results!

I can give you a survey of one.... Yes it is true on both accounts.

Third.

I dislike elixirs on anything of my own. Theyre horrible on my guitars.

Ive put them on so many guitars and never once have I thought the guitar sounded great.

As far as longevity goes, I really dont care. I dont want to hear them(elixirs) for too long.

yoslate, very curious as to how you like the Dr. Vintage in the neck. I love the marshallhead, but I really have to turn it down. Peeling paint is not something the wife enjoys!
