Keith7940236 Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Hello All,I am replacing the Schaller Golden 50's with Seymour Duncan 59's in my Eagle TDC (thin hollow body, all mahogany). Is there a generalization about how it will sound with various capacitor values? I've tried to educate myself as to what may be best to use for clean, warm tones, but I also want to keep the sparkle that these new pickups have.I'm afraid that I may just know enough to be dangerous.I'm planning on using new CTS 500K pots and have yet to pick up a new 3 way switch.I appreciate the knowledge and experience of the HOC fold and look forward to any kind words of wisdom. Thanks,Keith
H Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 The caps for humbuckers are usually 0.022 microfarads and for single coils 0.047 are used. The basic rule of thumb is that larger values roll off more high end tone earlier. Single coils are brighter sounding so the larger value capacitor 'darkens' the sound and vice-versa for humbuckers. 500K pots with 0.022 caps is the 'standard' for humbuckers, 250K pots with 0.047 caps is the 'standard' for single coils.
