gpuma Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 OK, here is the deal. On the 575 that I put up for trade I can tell I have SD pups. The guys in Kzoo have no record on the pick up installed. Looking at the label underneath the pick up I should be able to identify the exact model according to this table: http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/faq/frequently-asked/everything-else/labels/labels_2002/ If I slide a dentist mirror in the f-hole I might be able to do this for the bridge pick up. Almost no chance to succeed for the neck pick up. Anyone has any suggestion (that of course does not include the disassembling on the pick up itself)? Thanks a lot!
DetroitBlues Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 You cannot just losen up the strings, remove the pickup ring, take a look, then screw it back down?
gpuma Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 Yes, DB but my understanding is that removing the pick up on a hollow body is not as straight forward as on a solid body; therefore I wanted to avoid it. But maybe I am wrong

gpuma Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 but if it's only that it does not sound too bad. Isn't it possible to just put the guitar top down and have them come out? I obviously don't know what I am talking about... if that was not clear enough
tulk1 Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Your pickups are mounted to the pickup rings. As DB has suggested, unscrew the pickup ring (the plastic surround) and look at the back of the pickup. It should have what it is written on it. Then just screw the whole assembly back onto the guitar. It's not hard. And you shouldn't have to remove the pickup from the plastic, so no loss of springs, etc. And yeah, swapping out pickups in a semi/holllow generally requires removing the whole wiring harness (pickups, pots, jack) just to get to the soldering. It's why I've not swapped on my two semi's. Jason Lollar has a how to video on his web site. I think it's in 8 parts!!
