MartyGrass Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 Charley, do you get much hum from the CC pickup?
unikh550 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Hi, Martygrass, Talked with Pete today, and he said it'll be ready sometime in August. He couldn't get much of the red off with the wood bleach (compliments to the original factory finisher back in '98), so he's going to finish it in a honey sunburst, instead of antique natural. If you or another poster visit Pete, please go up to my guitar and tell it that Charley still thinks of it every day, and will return the Joe Pass usurper back to the guy who loaned it to me, just as soon as I get it mailed back from Pete.- Charley Bevell, Bloomington, IN .
unikh550 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Hi, MG, I used to get a lot of hum from the CC. However, buying the Polytone Minibrute IV (Why do they call it that? It weighs about 75 lbs, and is over 2 feet tall!) off of e-bay a few years ago and adjusting it carefully in favor of treble, did wonders to remove the hum. It's one off of a Gibson ES-175CC that someone must not have wanted. Weighs a lb., unlike the Lollar version. Has a clean, strident bark that is very close to Barney's 350. Again, the devil is in the details regarding matching his playing; have his whiny tone, however, to a tee. Also, after I dropped the guitar case on the concrete a few months ago, it totally removed any hum that occasionally surfaced in the past. God bless concrete and guitars- they're perfect matches!. If someone can tell me how to take a photo or two off of a digital camera and transmit it to this site, I'll send pics of the finished guitar next month. Was a perfect ACB that I just grew tired of as unsuitable for a jazzbox. By the way, a couple of friends are going to make a webpage for me that will allow the viewer to punch my photo and see me play live. Have been playing for 40 years, but still work hard on it, especially the singing. Would be exciting to hear honest (even harsh) critiques of my playing and singing standards around Bloomington. Have seen a few like this on this forum. How did they do it?- Charley
light01 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Very nice stroy! Its my first time to read a short history about Gibson/Heritage Guitars. Thank you for sharing
hotfordcoupe Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Every time I hear these great Heritage stories, my GAS for a new one gets harder and harder to control. I'm already saving my pennies for a new Golden Eagle to replace the one I stupidly sold way back when.
light01 Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Thank you for sharing the history! I really like reading history of the brands
