Bluesbender75 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 So a few month ago I sold one of my Tele"s to purchase a Les Paul. I have been a Fender-Bender forever and having never owned a guitar with humbuckers this was going to be a pretty big change. I'm a huge Freddie King fan and lately have been slightly obsessing over that Michael Bloomfield LP sound. So it made sense that I should get some PAF action in my life. I started scouring Ebay and craigslist in my local area, checking all the local shops and intensely researching everything I could about LP's and PAF pickups. During my rigid search for info I discovered Heritage and this awesome forum! Right around the time I discovered Heritage and the HOC out of the blue and i mean outta no where a H-150 pops up on craigslist in a city an hour away. I make arrangements with the seller to check her out. I almost didn't even need to play her I KNEW she was coming home with me! She is a 1999 H-150. Weighs in around 10 lbs. A few minor dings, frets in great shape w/ original case. I was able to grab her for $1000.00. A huge thanks to this forum, it's members all the valuable info and of course the PICS!!! You guys put me on the right path! Also thanks Brent for the tips u gave me before purchasing....and so my journey with Heritage begins
Bluesbender75 Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Also, after playing for a mere thirty minutes she let me know just how awesome she really is!!! Amazing guitars but you already knew that!
Spectrum13 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Great price! Wish I could say the same about the photo. Looks like some killer flame. How doe it play and sound?
Bluesbender75 Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Yeah my photography skills are not on par. I will try to get some better ones up soon. Red seems a little difficult to photograph. Anyhow she plays so great! sustains awesome. It was like getting your first guitar on Christmaa haha! If i hadn't got the LOOK form my girlfreind I would have played all night.
MartyGrass Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 That's a beauty. That's similar to what George Harrison used to play in his later years. You'll be tempted to change out the tailpiece and bridge. Personally I wouldn't. Schaller is good hardware.
Bluesbender75 Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Yes it seems alot of folks like to change out the Bridge and tailpiece. Honestly I was really blown away at how she sounds. Super responsive! Sustains amazing.
Bluesbender75 Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Thank you, much appreciated. Indeed, the first of many!
Guest HRB853370 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Welcome and congrats. There is this Heritage thang called GAS, I had an uncurable case of it, but thanks to counseling by Brent, I am now proudly GAS FREE!
PunkKitty Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Welcome to HOC! Great score! I really like the stock Schaller pickups. They sound awesome. That's a beautiful 150.
PunkKitty Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Congrats on your first of many ..... ! This is so true. I bought my first in November. Now I have 3. I love them all.
blueox Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Congratulations on your first Heritage! As you came from bolt-on necks and single coil pickups, your H-150 will definitely point you towards Freddie King territory. Freddie played with great power and soul and inspired many to take up the LP guitar. Michael Bloomfield was one who was inspired by Freddie's use of the LP and was a great wire-bender in his own right. Later on Freddie went to the ES-355, so I might predict an H-535 or H-555 in your future, but right now you'll be playing the blues on that great H-150.
Keith7940236 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Congratulations, and yes, they are addictive. I've gotten two since February and am shopping for number three
mtpatty Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 congrats- my first heritage was a 1999 Heritage H150-CM- great guitars! welcome to the cult!
FredZepp Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Nice.... a very cool 150. And you'll notice that the Trans Red finish is hard to get the flames to come out in photos, I know because I have a 140 in that finish. .. Congrats..
Bluesbender75 Posted July 4, 2012 Author Posted July 4, 2012 Welcome to HOC! Great score! I really like the stock Schaller pickups. They sound awesome. That's a beautiful 150. They are actually very cool pickups! I know alot of folks swap out the Schaller pickups as I probably will as well eventually, but to my ears these would be really cool Rock pickups. They sounded really cool when I plugged in the OCD pedal for fun
Bluesbender75 Posted July 4, 2012 Author Posted July 4, 2012 Nice.... a very cool 150. And you'll notice that the Trans Red finish is hard to get the flames to come out in photos, I know because I have a 140 in that finish. .. Congrats.. Very much so. I was having a hard time a good angle. The pic doesn't do it justice.
jastan Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Welcome to the club! I just joined about 3 weeks ago. Looks like you got a great deal! The 150 is an awesome guitar. Sustain for days. Enjoy!
H Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Very much so. I was having a hard time a good angle. The pic doesn't do it justice. Great first Heritage, well done! A pic tip: natural light - daylight - will bring the flame up much more easily than artificial light. Photograph it outdoors and let's have a look at the results And since others have already chipped in on the hardware, dump the ugly Schaller bridge and tailpiece and get a locking set from TonePros. Heritage themselves now have this as standard fitment. 535 next?
Hfan Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Welcome to the cult, nice snag. Re the hardware, I like the Schaller p ups and the roller bridge (just watch the little wheels don't spin while you change strings). I changed the tail piece to gotoh just for looks (the guys on the LP forum seem to concur that the Gotoh tail is as good as the locking tone pros at less $). The Schaller roller bridge provides a good break angle where the strings won't rub on the bridge edge and you can set up the tail piece cranked down to the body. YMMV.
