gpuma Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I visited today a Heritage dealer just to see what they had in stock. not much. they had only a 137 that looks exactly like the pic below (p90 included). I looked at it closely and I found a small but deep scratch on the neck. When I asked about it they told me that the guitar was used (hmmm... it was an AB s/n). I then asked for the price and I was told $2,125. I would imagine that a price like that should be more or less what you pay for a new one, right? Probably that was just a mistake from the sales person, but it seemed way out of line, or I am missing something?
DetroitBlues Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 The price of a 137 has always baffled me because being a lower end model, it wouldn't be so close in price as a maple capped, bound guitar with traps. Being a slab body, dots, and no binding, one would think it would be under $1500 new. (in my opinion, should be $1k new). But there is a quality difference from the Gibson cousin as well being all hand made. The original Les Paul Special was a student guitar and priced as much.
fretless Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Hey That's my baby , you guys watch what you say for startes there is nothing "budget" about the wood selection , electronics and construction . However if a store was selling a new instrument with damage and no discount it seems off . they should offer a discount , or repair it like most new car sales for ex. I would talk with the "manager" and try to get abtter answer or move on . Best place to buy a Heritage is right here on this site , Brent moves several per year through here and you can expect to pay 1k to 1500 or so for a really sweet used one , give or take .
DetroitBlues Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I was trying to be careful in my words. Not trying to offend any 137 owners on here. (I'd get one myself if I could)
Spectrum13 Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 In 2007 my Korina 137 cost about $1700 new with case before shipping. Korina is an upgrade.
pegleg32 Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I suspect you could get a much better price from Wolfe who is a very reputable Heritage dealer: http://www.wolfeguitars.com/index2.php#/home/
SouthpawGuy Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 My used 06' 137 was about $1100 from a store, Elderly in Michigan, that was in Dec '09, almost mint condition. Are you sure it wasn't being sold as new but shop soiled ?
Hfan Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 That price is high. There was one like new here a year or two ago, could have been Brent's. Selling for under $1,000 if my memory serves.
skydog52 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 I purchased a new one from Jimmy Wallace in Texas for $1200 a few years ago. Don't know what they are going for now.

But they have a reputation for being tone monsters. Yet, I agree, what they charge new for them is just baffling.
gpuma Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 Hey That's my baby , you guys watch what you say yes, I stole the pic from the gallery Anyway, I loved the guitar, I just thought that the price was high event if it were new, and it obviously was not. Probably damaged by the store and the sales person did not know...

SouthpawGuy Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Very few brands give the interest you get from a Heritage when you own them too. Amen Brother ! The more I play other brands the more I've come to appreciate the wonder of Heritage, amazing guitars.
DetroitBlues Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Amen Brother ! The more I play other brands the more I've come to appreciate the wonder of Heritage, amazing guitars. Only issue is finding the right one that is "you"... . I really like the newly acquired 150 I have, but there is just that little lag knowing that guitar isn't quite me... Perhaps if it was a gold top.... (funny how a color or finish can make the difference). Tone and weight wise, I love the guitar....
