This I did not know

As High Flyin Bird would say, yesterday it was hotter than the hinges on the gates of Hell. So when the temp gauge hit the century mark, I thought I'd crank on the fan, and tend to a project I'd been putting off for a while....replacing the broken Schaller pick-up ring on my H140. This got way more in depth than I thought it would, the bridge came off, the tailpice too, and I had to take off the control cavity cover to access the pick up wires and pull them back in to place (I'm new to this, can't you tell?). That is when I learned something I did not know. I had thought my H140 was a black translucent, but when I took off the control cavity cover, it said "Midnight Burst"!!! So, is this some custom color? I do not see it on the Heritage website as a color offered. Either way, I love it.

Here is the old broken p/u ring with the new one I sanded down to fit the radius.

You must be in Louisiana? No way now that Wisconsin could hit 100!

Interesting .

As to the pickup rings, I usually try to make sure that they aren't screwed down too tight on mine for this very reason. It looks like you did a great job on sanding the new one down.

And ... do you have a good full pic of the top, so that we can see the midnight burst in it's full glory...?

A change in the times. It's been a really hot week in Michigan. I was up North in Alpena where the temp average is 75 in the summer and it was just below the century mark the whole time. Wisconsin and Minnesota fared no better than us....

Is that why you were "silent" for a week?

looks like trans black, maybe they changed the name to trans black at some time? Nice matched top for sure.

Did you use a new Schaller ring or a standard LP type with 1 adjustment hole per side? I found it impossible to find Schaller rings in the US. Howard had to send me some from across the pond. Thanks again Howard.

Yeah , I remember that one. It does have a great top.

To me it looks like trans black , but with it getting darker at the edges of the top. A Trans Black would be the same finish across the entire top.

Yep, unplugged. All week. No Internet, no guitars, just the family, camper, canoes, and beer.

I was sending you smoke signals... Didn't you get them?

Was wondering what that was DB, thought it might have been wildfires....

What were you smokin? :icon_scratch:

Corn silk... Lol. More like the .357 and .38 rounds I was shooting with my birthday present from my dad.

I used new Schaller rings. I too could not find them in the U.S. - found a guy in Canada with them. Next time I know to get with Howard!

I'd be glad to help if you need it, Totonka :) Same goes for anyone on the forum having any issues getting hold of these.

That's a really nice top, and nice finish. Kind of an upside down Chevron.

Beautiful finish. I like it better than Trans Black. The Burst is a nice touch. Good job on the repair, looks like a pro did it.

Hey, Thanks NNB!

I also prefer it to trans black. It looks to to have some brown tones in it.
