fatarthur Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I was in shop the other day, and was amazed to see a first model 140 up for sale, ( old age has made me forget the serial number, but it began with a 'B' which I think makes it an '84 ). One thing puzzled me, the nut plate had somebody's name engraved upon it. ( forgotten that as well) , but it certainly was an early example of a nicely kept piece. My question is, as the nutplate displayed an engraved name, did the guys who made the early models have their names on the ones they manufactured?
FredZepp Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 a "B" serial number makes it an '85 140. A nice find. It's easy and commonly done to customize the truss rod cover, so that could easily be aftermarket. But it would be interesting to see the shape of the cover and what name is on it. It might be something interesting.
Hfan Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 previous owner's name maybe. Nice find. Are you going to buy it?
DetroitBlues Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I had a '85 140 which is a B serial number. Also played an '85 H170 that was the same. The truss rod cover (nut plate) was bare. Those are very easy to replace or have engraved...
Dick Seacup Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 My H-137D (D meaning dual humbuckers) has "HORNET" engraved on the truss rod cover. Got it for a song, as the shop selling it couldn't find any information on a Heritage Hornet anywhere. I think engraved TRCs are (or were) available from the factory for a small upcharge.
