MartyGrass Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 There are a couple of custom features: bridge, headstock inlay, pickups.
Keith7940236 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Wow, that's a beautiful guitar, really nice flame!
blueox Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Congrats! That's a nice one overall . . . and with HRWs.
MartyGrass Posted July 15, 2012 Author Posted July 15, 2012 Congrats! That's a nice one overall . . . and with HRWs. The HRWs will probably go.
Gitfiddler Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Another nice score, Doc! This shot really shows one of Heritage's best features, its neck-to-body angle is perfectly aligned.
RhoadsScholar Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I like that a lot. Thicker than a 535, thinner than a 575. Always wondered why they don't make them anymore. Quite unique and a great color combination. Nice one Mark.
FredZepp Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 That is a great looker with that finish and woods. And some very nice quality binding throughout. Very nice Kalamazoo craftsmanship.
DetroitBlues Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 There is a lot of binding work on that one! Congrats!
MartyGrass Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 The H576 is similar to the H575 Custom only the top and back are laminate with a floating center block that allows for a TOM bridge. The scale and other dimensions are the same. There are some cosmetic differences. I almost had this guitar two years ago. In fact I had already sent the money when the seller asked to cancel the deal at his wife's insistence. She would not let him sell the guitar since their daughter and she bonded to it years before. Now his wife is seriously ill. He recontacted me two days ago. The seller bought the guitar used. Here is the ad from eBay from when he bought it. It explains that the guitar was sent back to Heritage for HRWs, again quite a few years ago. ...................................................... This is an H-576 almond burst built in 1991 by the Heritage folks in Michigan. The Heritage name is well founded and well proven. The H-576 is no longer in production.Which is a shame, as the tone of this guitar proves. It's a 2 3/4" deep, 16" wide maple box, a hollow body with a solid floating center tone block running under the top from neck to end. That allows it to perform as a jazz box, as a blues box, a country box, and even as a rock box. Think of an axe constructed every bit as good as the versatile Guild X-500 and doing more than the X-500 was meant to do. Know what I mean? It does jazz, Chet, country, and light rock very well. HRWs are higher output pickups. You can get a nice round jazz tone on the neck pickup, a twangier tone (similar to a 335, only not as "nasal" and more open) on the bridge pickup, and nice variations in the middle position using both. This hybrid guitar is custom job, as evidenced by the "ball and arrows" inlay on the headstock. 18 individuals from the Heritage shop--including the owners--personally signed the label that's inside the guitar. It was spec'd with highly figured laminated curly maple top, sides, and back. Very nice triple bound cream binding. The one-piece mahogany neck with rosewood board is low-profile and fast like a jazz guitar. The action is low, and the set-up good. Rendal Wall at the Heritage factory installed HRW pickups (great pickups, see Harmony Central) and a totally new harness with the right Heritage pots etc. They also did an impeccable setup. With original hardshell case.
kidsmoke Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Man, what a find. This past weekend gpuma came out to my open mic for his inaugural solo public performance at a mic ever ((but that's another story) What's relevant here is that he very generously left me with his 575 to enjoy for a few weeks, as I've never had the pleasure of playing a guitar like this. I don't know how to tell him.....he's not getting it back! Wow. It's like an epiphany! Geometry of the guitar is amazing and I love the growl when driven a bit. I need to play it more to try to identify what it is about the guitar that strikes me....something about the relationship of the neck to my body, or the shorter board..... Maybe some of you that own jazz boxes as well as solids and 535 types can address it more technically. I didn't realize what a different animal they are and I'm lovin' it. The ONLY caveat is the trapeze bridge and rosewood saddle. I'm thinking a TOM bridge would be even more to my liking. That means the 576 would be my dream guitar. dibs!!
Guest HRB853370 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Very nice Mark. Your GAS continues. Makes me thankful for being GAS FREE. Now, on to a couple of questions, first and foremost, will it be shipped in a cardboard box?
MartyGrass Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 We're trying the traditional packing approach this time.

MartyGrass Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 Well, I cancelled the deal. I'm a little uncomfortable sending money to this seller. For those who live near Narberth, PA who might want to buy it, you may want to get it in person. It will probably be listed in TGP soon.
FredZepp Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I see that it was listed previously on TGP, in May.. There is one on eBay that is in California.. Too bad that your deal didn't work out.
MartyGrass Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 I'm in La Guardia on my way back to Kalamazoo. I took the time to check the seller out. He has quite a collection and is very accomplished. He's played many times with Larry Coryell and Bunny Brunel. In fact I used them as references by email. The seller is old friends with both. The H576 has been gigged with some jazz and fusion greats. I couldn't take the guitar back with me, but it will be with me in a few days.
schundog Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I'm glad it all worked out for you, finally, Mark! The hunt IS half the fun, isn't it?
SouthpawGuy Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Congrats ! The 576 is a great guitar,very versatile.
kidsmoke Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 great news. Really is a special guitar. Congratulations.
