tsp17 Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Looking for a speaker to compliment my new KBP jazz amp with 60-70 watts of 6550 power. Considering the Jensen Neo Jet Tornado and a couple of others. Anybody tried one? I've heard good things about this speaker for jazz. Other recommendations? Trying to keep the weight down, but would be open to non-neo suggestions. Will probably be a 1x12 fender style semi-closed back.
DetroitBlues Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 KBP is really good at helping you match the right speaker for you. Did you ask him?
schundog Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 When I bought and sold an old solid state Polytone amp in the same day, we opened up the closed back cabinet to find the cab lined with fiberglass insulation, and a big 15", ahem, Radio Shack speaker in there! haha. What was funny was how the great player at the pawn shop and I were debating over what great speaker we would find in there, based on how good the darn thing sounded..... Sorry, other than that, I got nuttin'!
Steiner Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Neo is the lightest weight speaker with respect to power. AlNiCo is the next lightest - The Celestion Gold is the most powerful one I know. A Ceramic that can handle that much power is going to be a behemoth!
bolero Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Fane makes a 100w alnico 12" speaker, they are quite good but a bit pricey http://www.tubeampdoctor.com/en/shop_Fane_Axiom/Fane_AXA_12_12_100W_16_Ohm_1946
Steiner Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I think Weber does too. I suppose for Jazz you'd want an overpowered speaker.
tsp17 Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 KBP is really good at helping you match the right speaker for you. Did you ask him? Yep. Based on reviews and specs he confirmed my suggestion of the Tornado, but has not heard it personally. Was hoping to hear from someone who has played through one. By the way, all you guys who have raved about how great it is to work with KBP (Brian) were right.

I'm sure his other coworkers would agree with you as I do.
big bob Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 The weber fane copy's (axis and Thames) are both great speakers.. I have two 100 watt ceramic axis in my weber 2x12 they sound great crisp a and clean and do pedals great.. The original fans were ceramic..

Yes, he is a great guy to deal with.
212Mavguy Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 It's obsolete, hard to find, and perfect. JBL MI-12 in 12 inch and MI-15 in 15's. Very light for what they can do, perfect for your application. I have some and they are wonderful.

212Mavguy Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 These are wonderful clean but also do great distorted tones. They have paper dust domes, not aluminum. Flat frequency response and accurate.
yavuz Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I have a pair of Flite Sound Cabs. They are extremely light. He had a website but site is down. Here are a couple of pages about him... http://www.jazzguitar.be/forum/guitar-amps-gizmos/16371-fs-flite-sound-1x12-guitar-cab.html
tsp17 Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 I went with Jensen Jet Blackbird on KBP's recommendation for this application.
rjsanders Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I went with Jensen Jet Blackbird on KBP's recommendation for this application. just saw this thread. have a Tornado in my Juke Coda and a Blackbird in my muley cab for speaker testing. love 'em both. the Juke came with the Tornado & i ran the main out to the muley cab to test a variety of speakers. EVM. Cele Gold. buncha others. ended up keeping the Tornado in there. thought it best suited me for the variety of stuff i play, both instruments and styles. seriously xlnt jazzbo bud of mine loves my Coda, btw... jensentone.com has sound samples, but they're more pop-oriented. good info there, tho... enjoy
tsp17 Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 I must have visited that Jensen site 20 times trying to decide. Was a close call between the Tornado and the Blackbird. Finally based on the chart, reviews, clips, and Brian's recommendation for this amp and for what i play it sounded like the Blackbird was a slightly better match, but I am sure that the Tornado sounds awesome and would have been great too.
