flattop Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 The H575 is often compared to the ES175. I'm not saying the 175 is not a nice guitar and I understand the two are constructed differently but the 175 is a tank compared to the nice light feel of the 575. Also I think the 575 has a richer tone. Just sayin.
Steiner Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 The 175s always sounded muffled to me too compared to the 175. I'll take the solid wood any day!
JohnCovach Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 The more direct comparison is to the L4CES, because of the solid top and the placement of the neck pickup.

Tim Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Though I think overpriced (except for vintage instruments), I think the ES 175 is a very nice guitar. I actually own an H575 (my jewel), and an Epi ES 175 reissue (which is, very surprsingly a wonderful guitar for the price). Most people here know the 575 is solid maple. The ES 175 is laminate. You're definitely right about the 575 being a tank. Two of my big hero's from the 70's played ES 175's (Steve Howe and Pat Metheny) so I still love that guitar (and it's history...much of it here in Michigan).
