jraad Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 So I recently got my 2004 H535 which has the stock Schaller pickups and I've been finding that they don't stay as clean or defined as I would like them to. I came across the Lollar El Rayo's the other day and I'm really intrigued by them, particularly if I could coil tap them, I'd have a whole heap of tonal options to play with. Now I know this is probably going to be too specific of a question but has anyone ever played these pickups in a 535? If not, can anyone suggest to me some alternatives that they've had experience with.
kidsmoke Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Lollar has a stellar reputation. His own go to axe is an old 335 with low wind imperials, but then again he can have a different gitar for every sound. There are so many aftermarket options out there, and virtually every p'up will have it's fans and detractors. The only critical variable is the one NO ONE can speak to, that's YOUR ears. You might want to ask about certain p'ups, try the search function to find related threads, and those folks with experience will chime in. I just ordered a pair of Sheptone Tributes for my 535, they're due here in the next week, so I can't tell you if they'll do what i want yet. I drew that conclusion after a year of doing what you're doing right now...reading, playing, reading some more.....ultimately it was a WIDE range of recommendations, lot of clip listening, and finally, a fathers day sale that made me pull the trigger. good luck on your quest!
