Guest HRB853370 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Why do you think they changed the pickguard design from the first model in 85? Did Gibson make them do it?
Bonefish Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 What gets me is how much the wood pickguard on the 157's enhance the tone! I think it's the extra shape they put in there that really fattens up the sound.
JeffB Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Usually not an issue for me because I use my pinky on the top to control my attack. But what if you want to just smack the crap out of it because you hit that sort of a zone? Where youre buzzing like a maniac and the on stage energy is red lining and the only pure and expressive musical statement you can make is going to involve digging in so hard its going to hurt the next day and mean blood stains. Joyful abandonment and what not. All my guitars are scratched up where ever there isnt a pickgaurd. Under the pickguard is the only place they arent scratched and dented. Im only going to live once and I wont be taking any pristine guitars with me. I think my pinky would get broken if it got in the way of a good time

bobmeyrick Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 It seem to me that Heritage have taken some of the more obscure styling cues from Kalamazoo instruments and made them their own. Thus, as I said before, the 150 pickguard could have evolved from the old Epiphone item... ...while the headstock we all know and love could have evolved from the Gibson "Snakehead"... I'm with Slammer on this - I like the 150 pickguard shape. It's all about the heritage...

No Pete Townsend windmill strumming. I'll play me some AC/DC, but even then I don't touch the top since I rest my palm on the bridge...
