I just picked up a 2003 H555. I'm not sure what strings are on there now, but I am wondering if anyone knows what gauge strings would have been originally shipped with it.

I'm excited to plug it in as I haven't even had it home yet.

Thanks!

GHS 10-46 from the factory. Thats a beautiful guitar. Looks something like this.....which is a 2004. Looks like your neck pickup was swapped out. Probably had Schallers or HRW's originally. I see the two original screw holes are open and now only the middle of the ring has the screw.

Thanks for the info on the strings. I actually have some of those strings at home and will be putting them on tonight!

Good eye on the neck pickup. The original HRW was swapped out for a DiMarzio Air Zone. Not sure how I feel about that yet. I will try it out and see, but I may be looking to put an HRW back in the neck, or swap both out for some 59's or something.

Thanks again!

That's a maple neck, isn't it? Looks pretty cool. I'm going to make a guess that the neck pup is a Seth Lover. No reason for the guess, just want to be first to say that in case it is. :) On your string change, unscrew the pickup surround and check it out. Let us know what it is. And yeah, looks like your selector switch has a white dot, which would indicate it originally had HRWs in it.

Thanks again for all the info guys. I took it home last night and played it for about 3 hours straight. I could not put it down. I have a Fender Deluxe Reverb (reissue), and it sounded great.

I believe the 3-piece neck is maple, with mahogany down the middle. I'm not positive on that though. Some of the other guys may on here may know for sure. I thought the flaming on the neck was just amazing. I put up another pic here.

I put new strings on last night, but I did not take the neck pup out. The guy I bought it from said it was a DiMarzio Air Zone, but I haven't confirmed. I may take it in to get a full setup, and when I do, I'll have him check the neck pup. I was actually surprised at how good the DiMarzio sounded. Previously, I was set on swapping it out for another HRW or perhaps some SD '59's. I had also considered some Motor City pickups, as I live near Detroit and have always heard good things about that guy. I may leave the DiMarzio in though for a while and see how I like it.

I'm going to post another thread on another question I had re: the sticker inside the guitar.

Thanks again! This is a great place!

Another question: I believe this guitar has the Grover locking rotomatics, which have the outer sleeve and the inner post. I have never used these before and I'm not sure if I put the strings on correctly last night. Looking at the Grover instructions, it looks like you line up the holes, and position the holes away towards the inside of the guitar. Then, you pull the string all the way through and tighten it up? That seems weird to me as you may not even have one full turn on of the string on the post.

Also, is there anything special to taking the strings off? Are you supposed to use that slot on the top of the peg head to release the tension or something? I noticed that it was hard getting the strings off, but, again, I was probably not doing it right.

Thanks!
