mggns Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I know I have been peppering the board with questions re: my new H555, but here is another one on the tuners. As you can see in the attached pics, the D string tuner is different than the other 5 tuners. They are all Grover tuners, but it looks like the 5 are locking rotomatic tuners and the D string tuner is non-locking. (Also, I apologize for my ineptness in restringing with the locking tuners .... I have never had locking tuners, and didn't know that you could pull the string all the way through at the start, lock the string, and then tune to pitch. Hence, I have many needless wraps on my locking tuners.) My question is: what is the model of Grover locking tuners on there already, so that I can buy a new set of tuners and either just replace the D string tuner, or replace the whole set at once, without having to drill any holes or anything. My guess is that these are the "full size" Grover locking rotomatic tuners show here: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,_solid_peghead_tuners/Grover_Tuners/Grover_Full-size_Locking_Tuning_Machines.html?tab=Pictures They did not appear to be the "mini" size locking tuners, as the mini's have a slightly different location of the screw and flange on the back. If I do purchase a new set, my next decision will be whether I replace just the D and then use the others as spares, or if I just put on all 6 so that they all match. This is a 2003 guitar, and the new tuner will likely look a lot brighter and newer than the others. Thanks again for all the help. This place is great!
MartyGrass Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 From a functional standpoint, you can leave well enough alone. But if you are like me, that odd tuner will bug you. It's an easy replacement. Chances are you'll be the only one who'll notice the difference.
