PunkKitty Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 It was in the shop for the last 3 weeks getting refretted. I'm really looking forward to getting that guitar in my hands again.
kidsmoke Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 no doubt they did a great job and you'll be lovin' it!!
FredZepp Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Happy Day... A fine tuned 140 to look forward to....
Guest HRB853370 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Were the frets totally shot on it PK? or just not level?
DetroitBlues Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 That's good news. Refrets aren't bad on a 140 because there isn't any binding and there isn't gloss on the fretboard (maple neck strats).
PunkKitty Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 Were the frets totally shot on it PK? or just not level? The frets were worn down on it. It was still playable and the neck was in great shape. But it needed a refret and I had one prepaid from a Groupon deal that I bought last year. So I used it on the 140.

kidsmoke Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 You had a Groupon deal from one? That's awesome! There's a shop here in Chicago that is owned by a friend of ours. Chicago Fret Works. Fantastic, super talented guys. Really friendly, knowledgeable. i can't tell you how many people, who have sworn by "their guy" have gone to them after much encouragement, and always come away gushing. they're pretty progressive dudes, and yeah,. they've done a few groupon deals over the years. I've had them do acoustic and electric work, always with stellar results. They recently added a custom amp builder to the staff. (I'd still go through KBP, but it shows their commitment to the client) http://www.chicagofretworks.com/ check out the "virtual workbench", crazy stuff these guys can do.
PunkKitty Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 I tried someone different this time. There's a shop called "The Shake Shop" in Logan Square. It's a 2 person operation with 1 guitar guy and 1 amp guy. The guitar guy is a veteran of Lakland Bass and Hanson Guitars. He worked in a few different shops before opening his place. His Yelp reviews are very good. He did a nice job rewiring my Prospect. The Groupon was for his place. So I had him do the work. He called me up just after lunch. He got delayed and it won't be ready until tomorrow. Such is life.
kidsmoke Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 apologies....shoulda let you speak for yourself...I assumed, what a maroon..... Hope it's home soon.
PunkKitty Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 It's a good assumption. Steve and company usually work on my gear. But I've also used 3rd Coast and The Shake Shop. On the bright side, I was in the city running errands and I had some time to kill. So I stopped at Kuma's Corner for lunch. It's not low cal by any means. But it's damn good. Kuma's should be a place that every carnivore stops at when visiting Chicago.

SouthpawGuy Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 .... and I had one prepaid from a Groupon deal that I bought last year. Groupon ? Can't say I've come across that term before, anyone care to enlighten me ?
kidsmoke Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 GRoup/cOUPON its a way that small business can pre sell a specific service, there by knowing how many, or what, or when, they'll need to be providing what. VERY popular, but also potentially fatal to small businesses. http://www.groupon.com/chicago

PunkKitty Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 The serial number is O17204. If I calculated that right, was the 4th guitar built on Sunday, July 12, 1998. That can't be right.

pressure Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I've stopped at Kuma's 4 times and it was always too crowded but someday I will get lucky.
